Was meant to be laying down a bit of a concrete yard Tomo morning. Now I see it's meant to piss rain. Would I be aswell to cancel it. Will the rain destroy the finish

Yep rain will ruin any finish even if the concrete is down a day this time of the year.

unless its lashing when your screeding it, sheet of plastic over it once layed and it would be grand. Things have a habit of going arse ways in the rain, then tempers get high and you finish up with a balls of a job:D

****e. Fecking dry for 6 weeks and the day I'm ready to do it it would be wet. Would covering it down with polythene be any good

Just saw Ure comment on polythene now bob.

I poured concrete the last time it was raining :) and there was even a roof flowing down on it. We were covering the minute it was screeded so it was grand. In normal rain it will be the finest, unless you get a downpour. If its around the farm I would work away, around a house that has to be done perfect maybe thats a different story. If it was dry for a few hours after pouring, I would work away

No harm to keep fresh concrete sprayed with water to keep it moist anyway, so normal rain is no harm at all. Watch the night frost though.

Laid concrete 2 years ago. It lashed so much we had to run for the shed. Thought it'd b fecked but we were able to salvage it. So small shower or two... not a bother!

You wouldn't lay concrete here today Wind would blow it up a hill and rain is like sand blasting.

Very heavy rain can wash sand up in mix and wash cement away, can cause it ti ravvel a bit when dry. Happened me. Rain pounded off it when nearly set and brought the sand to the top. Tried power float again but it had set too much, only brought up false fat. Light rain should be ok though.

Well I did it today and we did get hardship. Started at 8 to set up the screeds. Was lovely and dry. Concrete organised for 10.30. Still waiting at 11. Came at 11.30 started to rain heavy.
Ran out and needed another 1.5 metres. Had to come back with that. Soaked to o the bone but it looks well. If it would just stay dry for a few hours to allow it to dry off a bit.

After all the dry weather I will be looking at a concrete finish like a teenagers acne covered face me thinks.

Most important time to avoid the rain is after final float. If it can get 3 or 4 hours it will be grand after that.
