lads how hard would it be to remove a back bumper from a 2001 colt? my uncle had a crash and the bumper is completely squashed

are they just screwed on and is it an easy diy job?

I'd be worried if anything behind the bumper was driven in

well he has been driving it with no problems. i was thinking of buying it but i'm also worried about other damage. i had a look but it was dark so i could see much..

he only wants 200 euro for it. the belt, water pump and 4 brand new tyres went on to it before the crash

Remove the panelling inside the boot area and you should see 3 or 4 10mm nuts. Remove them and another 2 or 3 push in clips in the underside of the bumper. It should lift straight off. If the entire bumper is crushed then the bumper supports and panels behind are more than likely damaged too which means you won't be able to simply fit a new bumper on it. I'd get the damage assessed and a price for fixing it before buying the car, it won't pass an NCT with a damaged bumper and if it's that badly damaged the car would be considered unroadworthy.

Lastly, NEVER view any car your thinking of buying, in the dark.

He is looking to buy it off his uncle so I doubt his uncle will do him over so i think the notion of never look at a car for sale in the dark really matters in this case.

Is is cracked or dented in?
If dented, it will go back into shape with a bit of heat.

It's dented in. it will defo need a new bumper. I was hoping to buy it, pick up a bumper in scrap yard and just keep it for myself.

I'm worried about further damage now though. might just take a risk on it..

Take off the bumper and have a look

It's worth 200 regardless of further damage or not, take a chance.
