Due to get wisdom teeth removed - terrified!

I don't know if this is the right place for this! Sorry!

Next Thursday I've to get three wisdom teeth removed, all three are impacted, one at the top and two on the bottom (don't have a second top tooth)

I'm booked in with general anaesthetic.

I'm terrified though, keep having nightmares about it! I've woken up during general anaesthetic before .... I've told my dental surgeon this, but I keep having nightmares where I wake up!

Can anyone put my mind at ease? It's not as bad as I'm imagining is it?

6 days before Christmas Day I've already resigned myself to the fact that I won't be eating Christmas dinner :D. As far as working goes .. I've two days off ... One for the surgery and the day after, I work In a huge retail shop that requires talking to customers constantly, no sitting down allowed and quick breaks ... Would I be very cheeky to ask for a hospital cert even to cover for a few days as I don't know what to expect but surely working will be near impossible with stitches in my mouth?

I don't even know what I'm looking for ... I'm sure just reassurance that it's not as bad as I'm imagining ... The only other dental work I've had was a filling and braces

I had all four done at once under general, and it was grand. My main tip is when they tell you to fast from midnight, don't mistakenly have a glass of OJ when you wake up - that was a bit unpleasant.

Mine were kind of awkward, so the biggest issue afterwards wasn't the teeth or the stitches, but my face was bruised. Looked like I'd been in a brawl :P

You could work with the stitches, the bigger problem is the regular rinsing and spitting. I'd say the hospital would give you a cert for a few days no problem. Besides anything else, even with a short general anaesthetic, you can be a bit dopey for a few days, so the lack of sitting wouldn't be ideal.

So yes, it's not as bad as you're imagining it, but things you hadn't considered will be more awkward. Try to resist the urge to poke the spots with your tongue (it doesn't do any harm, I was just told later it made me look very peculiar).

Had one(lower) taken out under sedation in August, three days before my birthday. I only had one out, you're having three so factor that in.

Going by my own experience, your jaw will probably be stiff for about a week and you'll have to gargle some salt water every few hours. The stiches aren't really an issue, they don't cause the stiffness, the swelling does.

There is a bit of pain but with some neurofen and panadol you should be fine. Space them out well and you should be covered all day.

It was a bit of an inconvenience but not as bad as I thought it would be, couldn't really talk for a while even with one extraction so I'd recommend you avoid work with three.

I was back in a week later and they pulled the stitch and gave me a plastic syringe to rinse out the socket after eating. You'll be doing that for a while let me tell ya:pac: Must have been about a month or more before it closed over enough to stop food getting caught in it.

Yea I've warned work that there may be a cert coming their way ... Think it'd funny how I told them what I was going in for and I get two days off

I know I'm worrying excessively, I am a worrier I'm just trying to put my mind at ease about the whole thing.

Do you have someone arranged to pick you up that evening? They won't let you drive yourself home, and would prefer you don't go home alone.

Presumably the operation is over you now, best of luck on the recovery. I had my first wisdom teeth come up before and that was very sore and got infected but after some anti-biotics it cured and it eventually came up. That was in 2009 and my other 2 wisdom teeth came fine. Now I am on my 4th and final tooth and it is killing me, I went to the Dentist on Monday and he cleaned around it and just gave usual advice.

However though I am very much in continuous pain the last 2 weeks and am eating soft foods on the good side of my mouth. I am thinking of getting this partially erupted Wisdom tooth out but I am very hesitant due to the Stem Cell contained within, Back in 2009 when I had my first Wisdom tooth problem my dentist told me that the Wisdom teeth could save my life in the future as they have stem cells.
