Its nothing new. If you are wealthy and get a good lawyer, you can get a decent plea bargain and get away with it. Lindsay lohan has gotten away with so much **** because she has an excellent lawyer.

If she was poor and was given a free legal aid lawyer, she probably would be serving several years now.

I wonder what the rich conservative judge who knew he could pass any sentence without punishment was suffering from.

    Affluception.

This is true but killing 4 people in a single moment deserved life at least ,
The same kid was found with a naked passed out 14 year old girl in the same truck he drove on the night and no action taken that time either

This kid also left two people critically injured, one of whom is paralyzed and can only blink his eyes. It's a ridiculous defense and a ridiculous sentence. Four people dead, two people critically injured with one of them potential paralyzed for the rest of their life, and no jail time. If he does indeed suffer from 'affluenza' and can make no rational link between behavior and consequences, might not the first step be to show him that killing four people and severely injuring two others does indeed have consequences?

There's an online petition to remove the judge, but she's already announced her retirement at the end of her term next year.

I find it ironic that the defence that got him off, being spoilt and people not setting boundaries for him is exactly what the judge did went the left him out. How about setting a boundary by sending the spoilt little **** to prison and letting him know that it isn't okay to drink drive and effectlively murder and ruin other people's lives.

If this was a black kid he wouldn't have gotten off, it's as simple as that really.

Absolutely probably would have ended up on the "row"

I think what is so galling though is that through the judgement and the contribution by the "psychologist" that they are actually trying to apropriate it as an actual mental condition which is incredible, to be so frank and blasé about it .... and as somebody has mentioned in this thread already, such leniency would surely heighten and reaffirm the sense of entitlement in the affected.

If it's a real medical condition then shouldn't the parents have been fined enough to reduce the wealth that's the cause of the problems ?

We are on the road to excusing all crimes due to some mental or psychological condition.

Same thing seems to happen if you are a junkie or habitual criminal.

Funny you should say that. The judge sentenced a 14 year old to 10 years after he killed someone when punching them

It's obvious to me that she's a racist

What goes around comes around, the law got him in the end!

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-36040878
A Texas teen who avoided prison over a fatal drink-driving crash by claiming he suffered from "affluenza" has been sentenced to nearly two years in jail.
In 2013, Ethan Couch killed four people when he rammed his truck into a crowd, but he avoided prison.
On Wednesday, the 19-year-old was ordered to serve four consecutive 180-day jail sentences - one for each of his victims.
He broke his probation when he fled to Mexico in December.

I got short shrift from a judge when I tried to use my lack of income and homelessness as a defence against a charge of shoplifting food.

No longer a minor, Couch will serve his time in an adult prison.
    :pac:
