Sushi

    Does anyone here like sushi?

I tried myself and really disliked it, I tried a raw fish one and a cooked fish one. Don't understand why you'd get that over something that actually tastes nice!

People here in Vancouver seem to be right pretentious about it when you say you don't like it and it wrecks my head!

I don't like fish but I like sushi with just vegetables or chicken

And yes, I know that's not real sushi :)

Yeah, I'm a bit meh about sushi, but that's what people think I like when I say I like Japanese food. Japan has way more to offer in terms of food

Used to wince at the thought of eating raw fish, but now sashimi (raw tuna) is one of my favourite meals.

This is a must see for any sushi fans, and non sushi fans

Love the stuff, such a delicate flavour, pleasant texture and so addictive.

You feel so light and refreshed afterwards, it's the exact opposite to a plate of chips in that way.

Big fan of sushi, I think it tastes lovely. Far nicer than cooked fish IMO

Sushi, along with proper ramen (not the instant kind), is the greatest cuisine Japanese culture has gifted us.

Nigiri or sashimi for the win. Vegetables have absolutely no place in sushi: I am unashamedly militant when it comes to that belief.

If you're ever lucky enough to visit Tokyo, get a sushi breakfast in Tsukiji fish market. I sat down, exhausted and semi-repulsed by the thought I was about to eat a huge plate of sushi at seven AM in the morning, and pay close to 50 quid for the 'privilege': these were the days I was still cautious about eating octopus, squid and the like. But the guidebooks insisted on it so... I can safely say my two trips there are among the finest meals I have ever eaten, worth every single yen. Even the best sushi you get in Ireland (IMO Yamamori) doesn't come close.

Some day when I have a a couple of ten thousand yen notes saved, I wish to visit a world class sushi establishment. Some day, hopefully before Jiro Ono retires.

I like sushi. But I like it like how I like carrots, or spinach, or ryvita, or a baked potato without any butter on it. It's nice, and it's healthy, but it's hardly roast beef and gravy. When I hear people talk about sushi in the same way I'd describe chocolate covered sex in a sea of chicken fillet rolls (which is a huge amount of the people I know), I assume they just think they're awesome for having 'cultured' tastes.

I like it but it's hard to get good sushi in Ireland. I went to a few sushi places in Tokyo. Top notch. We all had a huge big tower of empty plates by the end.

Ok I just tried terayaki rolls and gyoza they were both grand like, but I wouldnt buy it myself!

I don't like fish at all, but I gave it a go the last time because of being here.

I just don't understand why people like it so much!

Raw salmon and prawns on a bed of rice? Awful carry on!

Most 'wasabi' is actually just dyed horseradish sauce

True! "You mean you don't like sushi, kale or coconut water? They are so good for you!"

I don't eat much greasy food, I don't really like ordering chips when getting food, well not that often, I'd much rather rice or pasta, so I'm not unhealthy or anything, but I don't get why people are so in your face about food, I find it weird!

And don't get me started on gluten free haha

A couple of homemade attempts at sushi

I don't like it at all. Some of my friends love the stuff. And then there's weird people who actually look down on you when you say you don't like it and say things like "do you not like to try new food?" Or "I'm open minded about food", I have tried it, I don't like it. I eat food I like, it has nothing to do with having an open mind, and also, me liking McDonald's has nothing to do with consumerism or any of that ****, I just think they're chips are tasty. Some people think way too much about food and what it "means" if you like or dislike a certain food.

I'm off to Japan soon and the only fish I have ever eaten is fresh cod from the chipper, last time I was in Japan I didn't eat fish but I sat in the sushi bar with my OH at the time and just watched in marvel at it. This time I'm going in, any recommendations that's easy on a first timer, please don't say say salmon or tuna! I have eaten scallops in Galway once tho :)

Vegetable Maki, then go on to crab and prawn sushi (I love Prawn Nigiri) just to start by dipping your toes in. ;)

Love it, particularly like sashimi. Really enjoy Japanese food in general, always seems so healthy. There's a great sushi place that has recently opened up beside me, I don't know how I got so lucky :-)

Have also done this, incredible experience. :D

Thank you, i could'nt agree more. hate the stuff.

I was at a wedding a few years ago where i was told that the father of the bride was a chef. There was a buffet of mostly all sushi and a plate of chicken goujons ( not sure if that is the correct spelling). I hated the sushi while others talked about how often they eat sushi and how great it is for you.

Of course the plate of chicken was gone in minutes and there was plenty of sushi left over.

    Sushi = load of bollax

I absolutely love the stuff! I'm no purist though. I really like smoked salmon, prawn, tuna and sea bass but I like the cooked chicken ones too. I don't go for the wasabi or ginger though, just soy sauce and it's yum! :) I did once order squid, octopus and eel in yamamoris though just to try it, it was nice but I prefer the other types I mentioned. I've never been to Japan but it's on my "places to see before I die" list.

Love Mushasi! I love the ebi tempura, it's cooked so sushi snobs may look down on me but I don't care, it's nom! My sis who doesn't even like prawns tried it and we had to order more. Yum
