Hi bouggt a house last year with a blacksmith stove, ders quite a poor pull up the chimney and downdraft causes a lot of smoke when i open the door. A friend suggested a spinning chimney cowl to create a pull.

What im asking is if anyone has tried one of these cowls and if it made a difference??

    Any help would b great.

i would line the chimney with flex liner suitable for solid fuel i find this works better also depends on what causing downdraught ie trees flue height sheds ect i dont like spinners as they give a bit of trouble they soot up and seize thats what i found also if draught is bad dont put any coul on top of liner as this restricts the flue just put on a bird coul cheap 1 .. use a 6 inch flex liner

Here is a link to a good site which might help you identify the problem better and also to decide on a remedy.
Is it a Bungalow you live in. ? A H Cowl is what's recommended for a Down draught problem.

Also when opening the Door crack it open first before opening it fully. This allows the pressure to equalize and helps prevent the escape of smoke.

Do you have an air vent in your room where the stove is? if not, i would say thats your problem

Get yourself a CO alarm while your sorting it.
