Have the ads on RTÉ become noticeably louder?

Is it just me, or has the volume of RTE during ad breaks become louder in the last few days? I always thought the volume went up slightly, but it seems to have been ramped up again. I thought there was legislation governing this sort of thing (remember reading something about it happening in the states, at least)

Harvey Norman ads were always loud.

That's a coincidence - earlier today I asked the same question under a different topic. I too thought it was just ne. It's so annoying and frustrating. I wonder if there's anything that can be done to rectify it.

    EBU Recommendation 128 (Loudness) - http://www.r128audio.com/

I've emailed RTE to complain. It's a complete nuisance and bordering on a health and safety issue. That link posted by The Viag makes interesting reading.

It's an EBU/ITU recommendation that TV stations possess equipment to monitor and control loudness, and there is a standard set as to the consistency of that loudness.

Unfortunately it's not law here (it is in the US) so none of the TV stations here are adhering to it.

...even though loudness consistency is the number one technical complaint received by TV broadcasters.

In fact, sound is still very much regarded as the lesser cousin by TV stations, even though more complaints are received about it than vision.

Since the change to Saorview, none of the tv broadcasters here invested in new, properly compatible audio processors.

Even TV3, who spent a zillion euro on their new HD digital studios, didn't bother replacing their audio processors.

Sounds (!) like we.need to protest to the Communications Minister.

I sent him a letter. He's about as useful as a bicycle to a fish. Replied about 6 weeks later saying he'd referred the matter to RTE.

Where it was undoubtedly filed in the bin.

Well maybe a few more complaints to him might make him take note.

Sent an email to RTE over the w/e regarding noisy ads. They replied today with an apology for the noise levels.which was due to a technical issue. They say it is rectified and it would appear so.

    We weren't imagining it so!

100% definitely experiencing it again today, right now after the weather. If I'm watching the telly at 3am and there's not even the slightest sound in the house (which happens sometimes as an NFL fan) nothing under '8' on the volume setting is remotely audible beyond a mumble - I am now on RTE and able to clearly hear the ads with the volume at '5' despite plenty of background noise.

It's not just the difference between channels either, I had the volume at '12', was channel surfing, stuck with RTE for the weather, no issues at all with the volume, then when the ads came on...
