Mondello - Recommendations for Using Voucher

I received a 200 quid voucher for Mondello a couple of days ago :D

I was wondering what experience people would recommend using it for? I've never driven on a track before.

I think my options are the Race Experience, Supercar (Porsche Boxster S or 911) or Drifting Academy.

Has anyone done any of these before?

Race Experience is good fun. Depends what you are into I guess. I enjoyed driving the single seater as that is what I like.

Thanks. Whats the Saloon race car that you go round in before the single seaters?

    A Mazda 3.
Serious? MPS surely then? Doesn't sound much like a Saloon Race Car!

    A 1.6 iirc.....

What should a Saloon race car sound like in your opinion?!

It's a Mazda 3 1.6 hatchback. But it doesn't matter how quick it is, you drive that to learn how to drive the single seater. It's all about braking points, turn in points, apex and exit points on the corners.

    Something that'd beat a 1.6 Mazda 3 in a race..........

    Anything here would probably qualify!

Presumed that and understand why etc. but its a bit strange calling it a race car when its a bog standard Mazda 3.

Just checked their website. Yep, strange alright! They usen't refer to it as that I don't think. It's just got a roll cage and proper racing seats with harnass. Suppose that's what makes a regular car a race car! :D

I did the single seaters a few years back when it was the old rovers you practiced in before hand.

The instructor on the day told me it was the same engine and gearbox as the single seater and thats why they are used.

Formula Sheane are good fun, and a proper challenge if it's greasy or wet. The best crack is the off road course in the Land Rovers, it's an eye opener into what the vehicles are capable of.

Public road rules or benchmarks of what a fast car is don't apply a mazda 3 around Mondello would be about 100 times for exciting than driving a mazda 3 down the M7 :D

What do you drive yourself OP? If it's anything remotely exciting then you could do track day training + a track day. The single seaters are brilliant fun but the time flies all too quickly!

Yeah personally i think i'd have liked the training / track day although I would be worried about the car! It's a 150bhp diesel alfa 159 so don't think it'd qualify as too exciting although it is a bit of fun up the mountains.

A mate is getting the same for xmas to do the same day though and isn't mad on that as he drives a 99 Almera.

The single seaters sound great though and I love go karting.

The mazda 3 is just so you learn the track with an instructor beside you giving direction. It's fun, but it's just leading up to the single seater. Learn to walk before you can run, and all that. Hence why they have other packages if you just want to drive fast cars, like porsches.

    +1
    .
I did it years ago, IIRC in a Focus, and the instructor was way going faster than I was capable of pushing it. Basically they send you out in the saloon race car to learn the track and possibly for them to make sure you'll be safe in the single seater. Then you get to have a proper go on your own.
