Hi Guys, looking for some advice. My son dropped his 2012 nexus 7 tonight. It had a cover but the screen is cracked and a small chip at the bottom. Although its on, it does not recognise any finger movement, so it wont go past the screen saver. I take it I'll need a new screen. How much will this cost, any ideas and is it worth it considering there only 99 pound on ebay. I got it from the argos outlet. I'd really appreciate it because I loved going on it when he was in bed :) Ta, DL

Had PC world quote nearly €200 to replace the USB port on mine despite being brought back twice when it was still under warranty ,
There's supposed to be easy enough to do yourself some good videos on YouTube if you can find a screen cheap enough

Thought they would have swapped it for a new one there and then ,

Luckily for me a charging dock only cost @25€; from Asus uk no need to fix the USB port

If the screen works (as in lights up) but its not detecting touch, then you just need a new digitizer potentially. These are much cheaper on their own, you buy one and any phone / tablet repair shop would change it for you easily in minutes.

EDIT - Heres a new digitizer + tools to swap it out yourself for €15.

    My daughter just broke mine!

darkestlord - Did you manage to get it repaired? I was just quoted €150 to repair!

Must be a jinx going around because after a year and a half of my launch Nexus giving me zero problems, I managed to smash the screen yesterday. Will give the self repair route a go, but think I'll probably end up buying a new model.

I have half a screen working. Its not usuable really, because it has me driven demented constantly rotating it to be able to use a section of the screen that still works.

    Gutted.

Super_furry - let me know how the home repairs go.

I've been quoted £85 or €150 to repair.

Be careful with that, remember that the digitizer is glued to the screen, so it's a lot harder to replace than you're making it out! I paid €150 in a shop in Galway for an OEM screen replacement.
