claiming back tax credits

Hope someone can help me. I've just claimed a tax credit for 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2009. On the PAYE anytime it appeared within a short few working days and exactly as I expected it to. Today my spouse and I received 4 p21s each. My question is all of the overpayments differed as did all of the amounts in all 4 Panel 4s. It started as I expected as %100 of what I expected it to be in 2012, but 8% less in 2011, almost 20% less in 2010 and 2009. Our income was the same and the particular tax should have been even bigger in the earlier of the 2 years as it was reduced in buget 2010. Any insight greatly appreciated.

It's a credit out of PAYE paid-

If you did not have enouth PAYE Paid you would only get the refund of that PAYE and no more.

It's a credit again PAYE not a refund.

Yes, was thinking that but when everything thing else was the same bar budgetary changes I was confused. Thanks again.

Flat rate expenses list here :-
    https://www.revenue.ie/en/personal-tax-credits-reliefs-and-exemptions/documents/flat-rate-expenses.pdf
You'll see teachers on the list.

Otherwise on your tax credit cert you should have
    - personal tax credit 1650 if single
    - employee/PAYE credit 1650
If married and being taxed jointly spouse details will also show.

You may be entitled to claims for unreimbursed medical expenses
    https://www.revenue.ie/en/personal-tax-credits-reliefs-and-exemptions/health-and-age/health-expenses/how-do-you-claim-health-expenses.aspx

Tuition Fees relief is here if relevant :-

Are you registered for MyAccount. If not you should be. Your documents such as tax certs and facilities to file returns are there.

The 4 year rule means you can only go back currently to 2016,2017,2018+2019. After 31/12/2020 2016 falls out so it would then be 2017,2018,2019+2020.
