    Hows things,

I currently use an Epson V700 flatbed scanner which has decided to have issues in the middle of a big project I am doing. Does anyone know where these machines can be repaired? Epson seem to be very elusive and their customer service department are impossible to talk to, especially when the item is out of warranty.

    Regards

    Brian

Is there simply just no power going to it? If so, it happened to my V500 in the middle of scanning negs, lost power. I just replaced the transformer and it was good to go. It seems to be somewhat common for the transformer box to give up. Was a AU$25 cost for a replacement. It took some calling around for me to find who actually stocked the replacement.

What are the issues if it isn't a power issue? Are you getting strange colours/exposures on your scans?

scanner repair seems like a very specialist niche, especially in a market the size of ireland. i would doubt anyone would carry spares?

You'd be surprised. Here in Aus I had to go out to the outskirts of Sydney to a small, independent electronics/electrical wholesaler who had ordered the part in for me from Epson as they were the only authorised outlet for spares. The place was not what I expected.

Pete Ive asked around and people are just looking at me like Im mad trying to fix a scanner. I genuinely thought I would get more than 3 years intermittent use out of a €550 scanner!!! Silly me! When I turn it on it seems to shudder, the arm acts like it is jammed but there is no obvious blockage.

    Thanks for your reply!!

Shuddering! there are TWO lock buttons on it for transport/moving so nothing gets damaged (on the V500 at least). One is on top of the scanner near the hinges and one on the back I think (I'm not at home so can't check. One of these might have been knocked/moved into the locked position. It will shudder/make grinding noises if one of these is locked!
Thats what it sounds like to me.

    Pete,

Ive just read your post and am now actively banging my head against a dry wall! Thats exactly what happened, its working and is scanning an image right now! Jesus Im an arse!

Thank you very much, Epson told me it was probably fatigue on the arm!

You have no idea how much pressure this relieves!!!!

    Thank you!

    Brian,

AWESOME! Glad I helped. Ideally you shouldn't even turn it on with these in the locked position. I've done it a load of times. My wife thought they had to be locked when powered off. It's just for moving/transportation.

Stoked its still working. The moment you said it was shuddering I was 99% sure it was the lock switches!

If it makes you feel any better…when I got my new macbook last January, I couldn't see a lot of my options to adjust levels etc on my scan window. After 2 weeks of emailing/complaining to Epson, they asked me to send them a screenshot…..

…..They told me I needed to scroll down in the Epson window or enlarge it so I could see all the options. I never responded to them about it. The window was always the right size with my old macbook. I felt pretty damn stupid :D
