whirlpool fridge freezer question

The fridge gets nice and cold at maximum setting. 2c on lower shelf and 4c on top shelf. The problem is as the fridge is used throughout the day the temperature in the fridge rises to 5 or 6 or 7+ degrees. The fan or condenser doesn't seem to kick on often enough? If I open the lower freezer the hum will often start and the motor or condenser or fan comes on and fridge starts to cool again quite quickly. Is there only a thermostat in the freezer? Or one in the fridge too? Any ideas on where to start to investigate this?
    Thanks

most fridge freezers including w/p have only 1 stat unless its very old, I would think from your description that you have a lazy stat that is not cutting in soon enough, I would expect a stat set at its highest setting to be causing food to ice up down at the crisper box.

If it humms when you open the frezer door its probobly a frost free fridge
If it si the duct bringing cold air from the frezer to the fridge could be partially blocked

Have you defrosted it fully yet??

Bought a new w/p one and it works perfectly. Always stays between 2-3c even with heavy use.
