Magnet blocking port 5060?

Out of the blue today all our office phones went down. On further inspection, it was apparent that all our SIP trunks (2 with Goldfish, 1 with Blueface, and one with a crowd called Flowroute) had lost registration and were failing to re-register.

I've been frantically trying to resolve the issue since then, and it's only in the half hour that I switched the two goldfish trunks to their 8060 port — instant registration; no problems. That got me thinking — we have a fail over to a O2 dongle — when I brought down the magnet connection on purpose, the trunks registered no problem through O2... The plot thickens!

We've had the same set up with Blueface for about 3 years; added the Goldfish trunks in Jan/Feb this year. Never had any problems.

Anyone have any similar experience? Or any ideas? Magnet messing something up is my only idea.

Blueface also use port 5061 and 5062. Try changing the ports to those.

I've heard to Flowrpute, though haven't used them. A quick google shows the port 5160, try using this instead of 5060.

I would firstly check your Terms and Conditions in your Magnet contract. If there is no mention of blocking port 5060 and/or VoIP connections. If it is not there, I would contact Magnet and if all else fails contact Comreg.

My guess is that this is definitely not an issue on your side, but that Magnet have blocked the port 5060 themselves. I know Vodafone have (or used to) block port 5060 on their mobile network.

Let us know how you get on all the same.

I had this same, I spend 3 hours check what is wrong. Finally found problem on magnet bb. Somehow they are blocking WHOLE sip traffic - trunks are not registering to provider. This has been confirmed by Magnet. I was first person who logged this with their poor first line support.
they tried told me this is issue on my side. As I know little bit about VoIP I've excluded problem on my side.

We're actually in the process of switching to O2. I'm fed up with magnet's crap at this stage.

We have a seperate problem at the moment that they've tracked to "one of their suppliers" — we were promised a resolution by February!

Sounds ridiculous. If its just port 5060 being blocked try using 5061 and 5062, I know Blueface use these along with 5060. Flowroyte use 5160 according to a google search I did. Try that and see how you get on.

They don't seem to actually be blocking the port outright, but it does seem to have something to do with it port 5060,5061,5062.

I'm definitely getting the 401 Unauthorized response to my connection request from 194.213.29.91:5060 (Blueface), but the handshake doesn't seem to complete for whatever reason.

flowroute works on 5160, goldfish works on 8060.

I've just realized that outbound calls aren't working reliably though, which adds another twist.

I am so sick of magnet. First the fatpip70 crap, now this. How are they still in business?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭domeld

I tried IAX2 which is not working as well.

But goldfish on 8060 works perfectly? Looks like a blocking of ports than just sip signalling to me.

Any update from their service desk?

Well somewhat. Still cant make calls, receive no problem.

    I'm fully restored now.

Any word on what the hell they were playing at? Managing to block SIP accidently is highly unlikely in my books.

Does anyone know if their own VoIP service was affected?

Few companies are using Magnet :)

Level one support told me that problem was after upgrading backbone. Somehow QOS blocked sip traffic - possible but is it true?

I think if their phones were connected to hosted PBX by their bb, their silution could not work.

Do they prioritise VoIP traffic on their network?

Not a lot of providers do.
