My sky contract is up this month and I'm switching to eircom. How long has it taken for people to have their efibre up and running from order time. Do eircom contact sky immediatly or when the installation is complete. I'm not sure I want to chance being broadbandless over the Xmas.

Believe I was waiting 3 weeks for eircom . And that is in Dublin.

Brother decided to switch to eircom from upc . He is still waiting and that was 2 weeks ago. 4 or 5 phone calls later still waiting on them to get back to him.

Personal experience took 8 days (July 2013)
Friends experience is hitting 5 weeks on Wednesday and still doesn't have an install date.

If you are looking for something to switch to fast it might be worth searching for wireless providers like Regional Broadband or the equivalent in your area. These companies usually have you set up within a few days if you are in coverage.

I'm happy enough with Sky but the price is going up to €40 pm and I can get fibre from eircom or Vodafone for that. Did you have broadband until the new connection was set up.

Cool makes sense. But Firstly make sure you can get e fibre in your area as it is not available in a lot of places. ignore the map they have or signs or advertising. you could ask eircom to look at it before you go leaving sky so you are not without broadband.
With my brother he had left upc. But when eircom turned up said he needed new wiring outside the house. Again Dublin city so not some house in the middle of nowhere.

You old provider will remove your account as soon as the new one starts processing the transfer. Some transfers can be done within a few minutes but others can take a week. Especially if you need to wait for the modem to arrive(AFAIK the sky one is locked to sky). I wouldn't move providers until January.

Thanks for that. I'll wait until January to start the transfer.
