have a new car lost key.
A guy tells me he can probably copy another key with the locking and immobiliser working for 130....that seems ok 80 without just to open door manually and start the car.....

200 from a main dealer , changing codes etc......

Am I correct in thinking , on the off chance the spare turned up (lost miles away = unlikely ) will it still unlock and open the car even though a new key has been programmed.

    Many thanks

    Paddy

I'm assuming it would, they hardly can "de programme" the lost one.

no need to be an arse!

To the OP, yes it will still work as the new key is programmed to the car and not the car programmed to suit the key!
    hope that helps

Ohh the irony. I didnt mean to come across as "an arse". Im not an expert in this area, just sharing my advice. I was assuming that they can't de programme the key, wasn't thick about it!

If you go with the dealer option, then they can "tell" (by altering the active key numbers) the immob. to accept only the new key or keys.

I think the main dealer can change the codes to exclude the lost key ok but its 200 plus - debating whether to pay the 80 and back to two keys - slight - v slight chance other key turned up and be used to steal the car ! Or get codes done at main dealer and cost extra but exclude theft! Thks for yer replies!

Ya, if you lost it miles away, the chances are slim to none that it will ever be used by someone to steal your car. :)

I know, you will always have that feeling that someone could have your keys, at the back of your mind. Not too sure about the insurance, I'm sure someone else does though!
