I agree those ads are very commonplace but I don't think it applies this time - he's not gormless and hapless and bossed around by the missus the way guys are usually depicted in ads (like the "Donal" ad - another annoying one), in this one he's really smug and sneering and the woman isn't ordering him around/manipulating him. I know he gets a trick played on him at the end, but that's only because of how he was behaving in the first place.

Maybe I'm a little over sensitised to it too but I read this ad as the women 'having the last laugh' like no matter how smart you are, the woman will end up on top.
