    Hi All

Have a 13 year old son looking for the dungeons & dragons board game for Christmas but can't seem to find it online for sale in Ireland. Can anyone recommend a website or a shop please?

    Thanks

    Carmel:)

Plenty of good online retailers out there. I've used these a few times:

What's the precise name of the game?

He didn't specify, that's the problem. He loves strategy and fantasy games, plays a lot of them online and heard about these games and would love to try one. What would you suggest Earthhorse?

Gamers World on Jervis St in Dublin. They have around 500 different board games in stock and are priced fairly reasonably.

I don't work there, but i do spend a lot of money there.

Gosh, I'd love to help racram, but I'm not really familiar with the genre, I thought you had a specific game in mind.

I'm sure the guys in Gamers World will be able to help you but a very useful website is boardgamegeek.com. The layout's a bit of a mess but you'll find plenty of information on there and might spot something that would suit him.

If he's just 13 you might be better off getting him something with an actual play board first, D & D will cost a pretty penny to get him the core gamebooks and other various bits and pieces. Plenty of time later on for him to get into more complicated fantasy role-play type stuff if he wishes. That said, there may well also be a more simplistic D & D board game that he is aware of that I'm not so suss it out. As somebody said above your best bet is to go into someplace like Gamers World, the staff in such spots tend to be helpful in my experience. Good luck!

You can call Gamers World and ask them what they would recommend and have in stock. Their number is on their web site:

Like Earthhorse said the BoardGameGeek web site is great for all sorts of information on boardgames. Once you have a name go there, find the game, scroll down to forums and read some reviews.

Vision of Disorder is referring to the fact that Dungeons and Dragons is primarily known as a role playing game, meaning someone buys the rule books and play is generally moderated by one player who decides what happens and what rules come in to effect in a way quite different to a board game. There are however traditional board games with the Dungeons and Dragons branding, produced by the same publisher. Here's a link to a BGG review of a relatively recent example:

You son may actually want the RPG though and in my opinion it is not very expensive to get started. I'm surprised to see the publisher has gone retro and the basic product packaging looks almost identical to the version I played when I was in school nearly 30 years ago.
