Hi all you computer Tec's out there, perhaps you might be able to help. My laptop apears to have given up the ghost. The battery is flat, but I've had a flat battery before, and when I plug in to the mains it is usually fine, but this time I plug in and there's nothing except various keyboard lights, absolutly nothing on the screen. Any idea's you guys ??????

Try it on mains with no battery.
    Any disk or fan noises?

What laptop brand / model is it?

Is there any flashing LEDs from the power button / keyboard?

Most times, it can be the RAM that's causing it. A fix would be either to reseat the RAM or, in the case that it's burnt out, purchase a new one.

Flip the laptop over and there should be a little compartment where you access the RAM with a standard philips screwdriver.

Other scenarios could be that the GPU or CPU have burnt out, usually from overheating.

You should have a disk activity light, prob looks a bit like an oildrum. If this flashes for a while, like the normal boot time, its possible you have
    1.faulty screen
    2.faulty inverter
    3.dodgy screen cable
    4. failed graphics adapter

If you can hook it up to an external monitor or TV it should work for 1-3, otherwise if it is 4 you're prob looking at a new motherboard

It's working fine now with the battery out. Do you think I'd need a new battery.??????
