Hi weisses, thanks for your reply.

That rig looks good at a fairly good price, and is a good comparison, but I have no interest in buying one pre-built. Part of the fun will be learning to build a PC for the first time! :D

Its pretty well fine as is all compatible at least, you could definitely save a nice chunk (almost the price of a 120GB SSD) on the motherboard. The Extreme 3 is a decent board and would still leave you with all SLI/Crossfire options available.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASRock-Z87-EXTREME3-Motherboard-Generation/dp/B00D1COG4A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386779514&sr=8-1&keywords=z87+extreme3

Aside from that its fine, you could probably save a bit more here and there. Minimum PSU I would be looking at is 700-750W so you could probably drop down 100W or so to save another few quid if you wanted.

If you aren't going dual card you could definitely save even more on the mobo and PSU.

Thanks marco_polo, yeah I've realised that that motherboard is unnecessary for me. That ASRock board looks to be at a great price! How is it compared to the likes of the ASUS Z87-A or the MSI Z87 G-45 Gaming? Are they all fairly on par with each other?

I'm still unsure as to whether or not I will go dual card in the future. Once I've made my mind up on that I'll be able to decide on the PSU.

Pretty much although the others are slightly dearer I think they all offer pretty much the same basic features, the most important thing for SLI is that the PCie3 slots can do dual X8 / X8 mode and as far as I am aware the Extreme3 is the cheapest board that can do this.

Apart from that just have a close look at the specs of each to make sure the one you pick has all the SATA/USB ports and any other features you need :).
