Saorview / Freesat options

I have been doing some searching and I am a little confused by it all.

I have sky already, but in another room I have two cables running from the Dish that are working but not in use.

I am looking for the best option for Saorview / Freesat. I already have a cheap saorview box in that room, which is fine and picks up the UK stations as I am close to the border .. but ideally i'd like a single box for both.

    My questions are:

    - what is the best box available
    - how difficult are they to set up to receive the available channels
    - is there a DVR option?

Sorry if this sounds totally basic; but the whole thing confuses the life out of me !!

A combo box is a good option as it combines saorview/freeview terrestrial with a satellite tuner to give you all free channels on one channel list with one remote . As you are able to receive Uk channels I'd suggest a box with a T2 terrestrial tuner so you can receive HD content on Uk freeview. Popular makes are amiko and ferguson.

right .. my missus went out and bought a Nordmende NM7100M4 combo box ... saorview isn't a problem, but I can't seem to get any satellite channels .. it give a list of available satellites and I have tried a few but from what I can make out I should be able to tune from Astra 2/Eutelsat 28A(28.2E) .. but it just does not pick anything up ... is there something I am missing, doing wrong or am I totally out of my depth?

If your dish is aligned and working correctly you should be able to receive UK channels.

YOU could buy 2 sky recievers, cost 30 euros each,
    plug them in,
    you get free channels, bbc,itv,c4,
    true movies,

or pay for sky multiroom, around 5 euro extra,
get all channels on reciever 2.
You have to connect a phone line to the reciever to do this.
SOME saorview revievers have dvr built in,
    record to a usb drive.
    read the saorview manual.

The OP is looking for saorview/freesat in one box which will not appear free on a sky box and sky boxes do not show all free satellite channels in any case. Multiroom for 5 euro is an good option to consider though as you suggest.

All Saorview approved boxes have the ability to record via USB. Only 1 is a 'proper' PVR (twin tuners, built in HDD, series linking ability): the Walker WP6500TTR.

IF you wanna use a freesat box, you,d to put up,
    a satellite dish,with lnb,

As the satellite is not in the same direction as astra,
    sky tv satellite,
theres mini dishs you can get,
    google freesat dish uk.
YOU could run a coax cable, magic eye unit,
from sky box to the tv.
this sends the signal from the sky reviever to any tv,
    cost 25 euro,
plus the cost of the coax cable.

    with sky multiroom,
    you pay 5 euro,last time i checked.
you get all the channels on reciever no2,
    SKY Reciever on adverts.ie ,
    30 euro

i got a sky hd reciever with pvr built in,
    on adverts.ie ,
as my skybox had no pvr on it.
took 15 mins to turn it on,
i had to ring sky to activate the card in the reciever.

BY the way i installed saorview reciever,
i used the aerial cable from the roof,
    aerial,was installed in year 2003
to get 10 channels, bbc, itv, etc
eg a saorview box needs an aerial plugged into it.

a saorview box with no aerial plugged in gets no signal.

in dublin ,small aerial , 20 euro,
10 inchs in power city gets a good signal.

    saorview sat combo,
    uses aerial for saorview,

also sat cable from a dish for the satelitte freesat channels.
it,ll work ok, with just an aerial plugged in ,
if you wanna use it for saorview tv ,for the moment.
    look on powercity.ie ,
    aerial saorview

    http://www.sky.com/shop/freesat/home/faq/#7

acording to this ,freesat is on the same satellite,
if you plug a freesat compatible, reviever into cable from a sky dish ,
you should be able to get the fta free channels.

ie no need for another dish,or lnb.

    best saorview ,satellite combo reciever,

    see
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056757104

Some can record 1 channel, while you watch another channel.

    According to that?

Why are you posting in a thread dealing with Freesat if you aren't even aware of this most basic of facts?

Skybox F5 is satellite-only: no Saorview, so certainly won't fulfil that requirement.

OP has actually gone & bought a box anyway (Nordmende combi).
