Whats the shortest safest flight connection time?
I have been given this itinerary.

    Depart Dublin: 05:00 pm
    Arrive Amsterdam: 07:40 pm

    Depart Amsterdam: 08:50 pm
    Arrive Kuala Lumpur:03:45 pm

Thats 1 hour and 10 minutes to connect - am I wasting my time?

The airline is showing KLM but I imagine the first flight is Aer Lingus operating for KLM.

I have worried about this type of thing on many occasions with similar connecting times. You will be fine.

Chances are if you look at your itinerary, you will be arriving into a similar terminal to the one you are departing from. You will literally need to just walk through the arrival gate, not go through any additional clearances and walk to your new gate.

Only thing i would suggest as sometimes i have been left without baggage. I made the connection but my baggage didnt. You could argue your case at check in in Dublin to get priority luggage to ensure it makes the connection. Any time i have done this i was OK.

That's my experience anyway - Try remembering that the airlines have done this countless times. If they didn't think they could get you through you would be on a later flight.

Remind me, I leave the arriving plane and follow the Connections signs to find the Departure gates.
Will there be security on the way? Will I have to need to get the 2nd boarding pass somewhere?
And will airline rebook you if you miss the connection?

Not true for this route. OP are you flying with Malaysia Airlines? I had a similar connection last month to KL and its a solid 15 min walk to get to your connecting gate and you will need to go through security again, which is Amsterdam airport is pretty efficient.

If you dont have a delay leaving Dublin you should be fine but you will be cutting it close.

The important point is that it's all in the one area. The security you go through is at the gate for the plane, so it's not like they will close the doors when people are at the gate.

This is unlike most other security checks in most other airports where you are mixed in a security queue with everyone getting every other flight. You could be in a queue of thousands and nowhere near your gate.

If you were connecting to somewhere in SchengenLand (say Germany) then you would have to go through a much bigger security check with more queues on piers B & C.

The 15 minute walk should be a function of how far down the pier each of the planes is. Last I knew, Aer Lingus came in to pier D and Malaysian went from E or F. See this map - http://www.amsterdam-advisor.com/schiphol-airport-map.html. So you may have to walk down the length of D and back the length of F. It's a long walk, but it's just like walking through somewhere like Dundrum shopping centre - on the flat & broad. They even have people movers. It could be a 5 minute walk if both planes are at the terminal end of the pier.

Depends on the airport, whether you're changing terminals etc. I flew from Christchurch back to Dublin with a connecting flight in Sydney. I only had 75 minutes for the connection and was a little worried about it, but it was all in the same terminal. They actually changed the flights on the day and I ended up with only 60 minutes connection, my flight got into Sydney early though and I made the flight comfortably. I even spent 5 minutes pissing around the duty free and was at my gate before they'd even started boarding anyone, plus they made me go through security again once I got off the flight from Christchurch.

I've connected in Frankfurt before with a terminal change, which was a complete nightmare. Huge airport with very busy security, was close to missing that one. Will be doing it again the end of the month, joy.

Amsterdam is usually pretty good for connections. Make the airline staff aware of your connection and if it's going to be tight, someone will whisk you in a white knuckle ride on one of their little buggies to your gate.

We made our HK flight in OK time, our bags however did not and arrived the next day.

Two issues could impact you. You need to get off the ground pretty much on time from Dublin and you can be taxiing for a long time in Schipol. The actual airport is the easy part.

i never go through CDG, pay extra to avoid...waiting to go from 2E to 2d...and then buses either side to and from planes....you have 0 control over your transfer time.

In Schipol once you land in time you can just run and you will definitely make your next flight. (allowing for Baggage and/or security if they apply to you)

    Hi,

Is this London-Dubai-KL connection too tight? It is coming up as 1 itinerary online:

    Emirates 5110
    Depart LHR: 10:15 pm
    Arrive: Dubai: 09:10 am

    Emirates 342
    Depart Dubai: 10:30 am
    Arrive KL: 09:25 pm

Change Planes: Time between flights: 1 hr 20 mins

It is saying Emirates and "Operated by: QANTAS AIRWAYS LIMITED" so I presume Terminal 1 only.

You should be grand, sure the airlines wouldn't be offering it unless it is possible or every passenger would be missing it, thus giving the airlines and you a big headache: not good for business.

If it was two separate flights you bought then you might have a problem with 1hr 20mins as you'd have to get your bags and go out and re check-in and then go through security again. But because your destination is KL then you're only transiting Dubai and have no need to re-checkin, you're just walking from one gate to another, often in the same terminal. You might face another security check but in transit the queues for this is normally quite small and only delays you by a few minutes.
