Hi lads, wasn't sure if I should be posting in here or in the general Games section...

I've been looking to relive some of my early teens through some PC gaming

I'm trying to get Nuclear Strike to run on my windows 7 machine to no avail..
    !Bv)OoJ!!mk~$(KGrHqJ,!igEv1+z)5ktBMF76mJ(P!~~_35.JPG

I've tried all the compatibility settings and run as admin etc but no luck.
Anyone here running Windows 95/98 games on modern machinery??
I'd rather not do a dual boot, but if its the only option i may well have to!

I know for slightly older games I can use an use an MS-DOS emulator or something, and slightly newer games (XP etc) are generally compatible with new machinery it seems I'm stuck between two stools!!

    Other games I loved include:
    Populous 3
    older Need for Speed games
    Quake 2
    Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six
    Grim Fandango
    Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
    SiN
    Unreal Tournament

and a few more... I know lots of these have been repackaged to make them compatible with newer machines but no such luck with Nuclear Strike so far :(

EDIT: if its not retro enough perhaps a mod can move this somewhere more appropriate

I think a better thread title is " Are Windows 95/98 games retro now? " but I think they are, yes.
Certainly Duke 3d, Quake, C&C are all coming to the 15/20 years old mark.
A computer format is really a reflection of its OS, to reframe the title further, very interesting indeed.

Another handy option is to just pick up an old, cheap laptop running the desired OS and just use it for classic games. Should add to the experience too.

(you could also go one step further and make sure you're wearing denim jeans with the knees cut out and a tie-dyed shirt :D)

Ah, the mid 90's, remembering the hope you had, sitting there playing Sonic & Knuckles and wondering how amazing the series might get in the future. ..... poor deluded b@stard

A great 3D sonic game and a second home in an Eastern European country I've never heard of. Two things the 90s promised me and never delivered :(

Yep XP mode is free with Windows 7.
Pretty sure you can install Win 95 as well along with Windows 3.1 if desired.

I used to install windows 95/98 from scratch building PC's, Christ that was a slow process.

    Hmm looks like it should!!
With a name like DOSbox I assumed it was only for running much older games:rolleyes:

I actually am kinda clueless when it comes to something more complicated than mounting an image + clicking play....

Probably but It would be much easier to install it in Windows Virtual PC.

Only last week I went on a search for videos of The Third Dimension - a software that came with my first PC, natively ran on Windows 95
and that is how they ran it in these videos:

Must get it running myself again, some of the music was atmospheric and sometimes freaky.
