    Alright lads,

This is something which i had meant to put up a while back,

I got lessons 2yrs ago around 5 i think and got fitted for a Driver which has a stiff Grafalloy Pro Launch Red shaft and midsize grip, this fitter has a indoor simulator which measures your swing from the moment you take it back, so basically a start to finish swing speed reading. (I dont pause at the top of my backswing)

I went to another fitter close to home and this guys swing speed monitor (outdoor) measures the release (impact) point and the difference between them is nearly 10mph,

Using a 6 iron , my swing speed On a release (impact) simulator its between 95-105 (x-stiff) but on a simulator which measures (total swing start to finish) from start or take back of swing and that puts me at 82-93mph (stiff), im now using S300's in my AP1's

I just dont understand how the two machines can be so different????
And 2 fitters saying total different things????

This is why i havnt changed the shafts yet as im confused about this and which shaft i am to go for, same way i was told graphite stiff by one fitter and x-stiff steel (X100 or KBS x-stiff) by the other

I dont have any exact stats unfortunately

    Any info appreciated :)

What kind of monitors are they?
If your swing speed is varying by up to 10 mph , by this I mean 82-93.....I'd be sticking with the s300's. How many shots did you hit and what is the avg speed.

I don't know what monitors they are, but I'd find it hard to believe you're swinging a 6 iron at 95-105mph (no offence). Some of the tour guys are only around the 105mph mark with the driver.

The only speed that matters is through impact, duration of your swing from start to finish is more a tempo thing, which is important also in its own right.

How are the S300 working in your AP1s ? I'd be inclined to stick with them if they're going well.

I always think people should err on the side of the less stiff shaft. One that's not quite stiff enough wont do your game a huge amount of harm. If you go too stiff, your distance and striking will suffer to a greater extent.

I use x100 and Grafalloy x flex woods, fitted at Titleist centre. They're a good bit heavier to swing than s300. I'm physically bigger and hit it further than the vast majority of weekend players, so it seems to make sense. However, what matters to me is that they feel good and work well. My advice to you would be to try the two shafts and go with what you prefer yourself, as opposed to agonising about the exact mph. Sounds like you could be between the two anyway.

Alternatively, in the past I've tried project x 6.0 and found them to be a nice solid middle ground between the DG S3 and X1 weight/flex. The exact spec may suggest otherwise, but that was just my own experience.

Thanks for info lads, i thing the average was nearly 99-101
All i know about the impact monitor is that it was straight across from the ball with loads of LED bulbs on it, its wasnt flight scope anyway i know that,

Only that i saw the stats i wouldnt think id be up at 105mph , i think that was just one i tried to burst,

The AP1's seem grand to be honest, im still getting a lesson every now and then so more of a thing of sorting my swing before changing shafts, just said id try get as much info as i can

I understand how mad it sounds but i was hitting a 6 iron and i remember checking the numbers after each shot and i was even saying it to your man at the time saying i cant believe the swing speed......

I get my driver up to 107-109 and I was fitted for kbs tour x flex shafts before. They were really nice shafts through impact the nicest I've ever struck tbh but I walked away instead of buying that day because in the back of my mind I was afraid I'd doubt myself on occasion. I shouldn't have IMHO.

I went to a different place and was fit for a very different spec DG s300 sl shafts which I strike fine too mind, but I will go for the kbs the next time I order custom shafts but that will be a good while yet tbh.

Moral of the story go with what feels best irrespective of what the sticker says on the shaft, what does it matter what's printed on it if you hit the ball well.

    This ^^^

The right shaft is obviously hugely important, but as long as you're looking at shafts that are in the right ball park for you, the differences between them are relatively small and will usually come down to which you prefer the feel of. If you were using a shaft that was miles away from what you need then you would of course see huge differences.
