Depends on what sort of car you mean?

    F1-type Car? Big? Small?

    Prefer a non-technic model?

You could pick up the Technic 8070 Supercar for € 120 here?

Technic sets really fun for car enthusiasts and I say it as a car enthusiast.

8070 is VERY good and a lot of fun building.

9398 is my favourite. It has remote control and and very detailed gearing and differential setup. I really want one more for Xmas, but I spent 400eu on tax 150eu on electricity bill, and I missed the Smyths good deal. :(

Go here and find the Moc you like. All of them got instructions, for some you got to pay, for some no. you will get a full list of parts needed for particular car you want to make.

    http://rebrickable.com/mocs

    example:
    http://rebrickable.com/mocs/crowkillers/porsche-997-gt3

    http://rebrickable.com/mocs/crowkillers/vampire-gt-deluxe-black

    http://rebrickable.com/mocs/sariel/jeep-wrangler-rubicon

    http://rebrickable.com/mocs/sariel/mercedes-benz-540k-special-roadster

    http://rebrickable.com/mocs/skyliner/kenworth-aerodyne-k100-truck
Then go to this website and buy all the parts needed and build what you want.

Just one thing I can tell you now: dont expect this hobby to be cheap...

Yes, they are all mocs. How much you spend on Lego depends from you. It depends what you do with it too. I spent From last Xmas up until now about 1300eu and thats with a lot of good deals. In fairness I had to dial it down a bit. I got 3 separate Lego I sections: Collection ( not even opened ), Lego purely for Mocs, Lego for Display.

You can buy buckets, but they got very basic bricks.

Im not surprised that there is a big adult following for Lego, but what dose surprise me is how technical some people make it

This is grate can wait to get more involved.

Its very very deep rabbit hole m8. It has a huge Adult side too. Most still think its only a toy for kids, but looks like there are more and more AFOLS out there. I for once find building lego ( Moc or a set ) is one of the best ways to take stress.

If you think me spending 1300eu on Lego is a lot, you should see the collection others have here. My one by far is one of the smallest one on this forum.

Another thing i dont get is you have 1300 worth of lego why would you want any more

like you could surely make 95% of stuff with that lot

Because some of them are for collection. I dont even have them out of box. Others are so cool when you build it and those are great display pieces. I dont have many sets to build with yet. Plus when you have Lego fever, you always hunger for more!

lol, not such a great idea mentioning things like this here until you have it purchased ;-)
most people have an eagle eye on done deal and adverts.

and no, I am not after it, my Lego has had to take a back seat for the last few months bar keeping an eye out for bargains in shops.

personally I started with buying bulk lots on Ebay, tracked loads of them, only bought the ones that went cheap. I got good deals on quite a few even with postage. I did over pay for some, but it was due to me spotting pieces that I felt I needed. it allows the MOC pile to built up quite nicely. the down side is while the condition of the pieces is quite good (would only bin a very small %, also have slightly more Bionical parts than I wanted), a lot of it was very dirty, and quite a bit of time was spent washing! in the end it comes up very clean, it not 100% perfect, but that was not what I was after. as long as it was good condition, I has happy.
