Hi, my friend sent an letter with gift voucher, 9 days have passed and its has not been received yet. Contacted Anpost who says insufficient postage was put on the letter and said nothing can be done.

    So what happens now,

If she was my friend I'd never speak to her ever again

I know for a fact that an post would just delay posting a letter if it didnt have the correct postage. Happened to me a few years ago. Was sent an a4 letter and it had an ink-stamp on it indicating its delay.

    Gits changed their rules?

Does this actually happen with post?
The letter gets halfway, they realise there's not enough postage so they send it back.

Is it just me or is that a but ridiculous. Just send it on to the other half of the intended address.

it was a christmas card i believe , no senders address on it, he was told due to the size of letter the price paid would not cover but thats the price the counter assistant at post office said it would be and handed him the stamp not they dont want to know

I once posted an envelope with insufficent postage and it was returned to me a few days later. It had a large sticker across it stating it had been opened under secure conditions to obtain a return address. Is there anything in the envelope that would show that it came from you? If so, they might open it and return it to you, but at this time of the year, I imagine stuff like this is being put aside to be dealt with after the Christmas rush.

I know we get the odd letter sent back at work with insufficient postage. As far as I know, they check it in the main sorting office and if it's too big/ heavy, they open it to find where they can return it to. That's what they did in our case anyway. If there's no return address I don't know what they'd do.

The postal system is busy at this time of year. It isn't unusual for post to be delayed. IME it happens occasionally and I have received post up to 6 weeks late (though that was exceptionally long).
