    Hi All,

Done a search on the form about this but could not find any info.

In short i am thinking of buying an NI registered car from a seller in Ireland.

My question is what financial penalties etc could apply in relation to tax and VRT etc...

I know the normal process would involve me getting a receipt and V5C and presenting the car for inspection 7 days after entry into state.

I have not yet seen the V5C so i do not know the original dates so what should i be looking out for or what should i be requesting from the seller to help me register it here?

It's illegal to sell a foreign reg. car in ROI, unless it's a dealer with a TAN no. who must pay VRT and register it before handing it over to the purchaser.

    two main courses of action.

1 get the seller to VRT it
2 get the seller to take it back to NI and you buy it there.

any thing else would be just a pile of hastle and involve you lying potentially.

Had a guy doing that when my sister was buying, wasn't registered even though the ad said it was.
He was buying cheap in UK, not VRT'ing, adding few k to the value of the car and then selling it here.

Told her that it would look better on the log book if she VRT'd the car herself but that it would be 2 weeks until he got around to it.. She nearly bought the story.

Spotted him selling another car then a few weeks later,
