could anyone recommend a simmental bull
    for pb limousin cows
trying to introduce some milk back into the herd
    preferably with progressive genetics

I would avoid hillcrest naughty. We have a couple of daughters and fine looking cows themselves they have nice calves but I would say the weanlings could be better. I'm thinking milk may be the issue. They are both off the same cow and grew well the cow looks wrecked at the end of the year but the weanlings off HTY aren't bad but the next generation isn't as good.

We have 2 calves on the ground from curaheen apostle. 1 from a heifer and the other a cow. Both needed assistance but we're happy with the calves. I don't know how milk will be though.

    Hi Badshot,

Seep tee jay is supposed to be good for cows but on icbf he isn't great for milk. I use PG myself but I have used DRU and SEV from Dovea. I hanv't had a SEV female yet but he is supposed to be leaving great females, you can buy the straws and store them with your AI technician.

PG have a few nice limousin maternal sires, Ozs, Utl and S666, given that it's pedigree lims that you have. Also have you given any thought to crossing with shorthorns. Cross the replacements back with ch, should give good weanlings, maybe not quite export quality though!!

Sev from dovea is very decent bull with high milk figures.. no experience with heifers from him.. I used 4 straws from him last year and I got 4 bulls. Very fast growers tho!

I would recommend trying a hand full of salers.. dovea have a very high maternal bull I cant think of his code. The one advantage would be keeping consistant red colour. Sometimes hard to sell simental looking weanlings as you probably no even tho there a lovely beast!

Though he is unfashionable, I know of a few HTY Pedigree cows that are breeding very well. I have one myself that is breeding exceptional. Her ICBF figures are deceiving, at one stage her Maternal figures were in the Bottom 1% but she has bred prize winning Bulls. Though scarce and expensive KFY would be a good choice for the LM's.

i remember speaking to a simmental breeder once (won a few shows with his heifers and bulls) and he said generally anything with hillcrest breeding will bring mik

not speaking from my own experience

GS-WILHELM Austrian dairy simmental available from Dovea, but should be available from all others as-well.

Just asking but would you not be afraid putting a Simmental on a heifer?

She is a pbr SI heifer. For commercial cattle we normally go limousin or the odd time angus.
