46th Mulcahy Memorial Chess Tournament

    The next tournament on the agenda is the 'Mulcahy' in Cork. Please see details below.

    The 46th Mulcahy Memorial Chess Congress (incorporating the Munster Individual Championship) is fast approaching and the details are as follows:

    Date: 27th - 29th December

    Venue: Gresham / Metropole Hotel (special deal available)

    Rounds: Six (two rounds each day. First round 12.00 Friday,(Bye available)

    Rate of Play:All moves in 90 minutes plus 30 second increment from move one.

    Prizes: 1st €500; 2nd €200; 3rd €100; grading prizes €50 each
    (prizemoney may increase or decrease depending on entries)
    (Newsflash: 1st prize guaranteed)

    Entry Fee: €45 (student/unwaged/ OAP €40) A reduction of €10 if entry recieved before 23rd December.

    THe results of the recent 46th Mulcahy Memorial Chess tournament were as follows:

    1st IM Alex Lopez
    2nd Michael de Verdier
    3rd John Kelly and Henke de Jong

    Grading prize 'A'
    1st Paul Dowdall
    2nd Denis O'Connell

    Grading prize 'B'
    1st Alice O'Gorman
    2nd Brien O'Gorman

    David & Goliath prize David Geaney O'Brien
    Best Junior: Tom O'Gorman
    Best Female: Alice O'Gorman

    All in all 38 people took part in the tournament which was held in the Gresham/Metropole Hotel in Cork.
