    Warning:Magnet Broadband-avoid at all costs

I'm writing this post in the hope that someone looking around for a broadband provider will come across it and save them from the world of pain that is Magnet Broadband. I want to say from the beginning, that I can back everything up here, so if someone wants to PM me for specific details please do.

I joined them a few months back and all I can say is that they are a disaster of a company to deal with.

Here are the main reason you need to avoid them:

-Their customer service is the worst I have ever come across. Ever. From the moment I placed the order I have been gobsmacked at how bad everything is handled. They made a complete bags of my order and it took weeks and many phone calls to get it sorted. Each time I rang I was promised someone would phone me back but nobody ever did. Shocking stuff really.

    - Their Tech support is equally as bad, if not worse. They really don't seem to have any clue what is going on when you phone them. The people that answer the tech support line appear not to be the real support people - as far as I can make out there is another higher level support team, not directly accessible by customers that some queries might get passed onto.

-Their network isn't up to the job. At least this is what I can make out. Some say they resell Eircom fibre. Either way, many people are right now in a situation where they are getting speeds around one tenth of what they are paying for. It seems Magnet have limited peoples download speeds for one reason or another, and are putting it down to "network problems"-everyone who phones them is getting the same story. Not good enough.

    - Less important, but worthy of a mention nonetheless - their wireless routers they supply are appalling. They're grand if you're the type of person that simply wants to enter your WiFi password and work away. But if you're someone who intends to use their new broadband connection as part of a media hub forget it, The bloody things are locked down, and even if you manage to come across the admin password, they are still rubbish. You could go ahead and purchase your own and put their one into Bridge mode, but I had serious problems with this and I know others have had too.

    These are the main points.

My advice is this: if you are considering getting Magnet, but another provider such as Vodafone is also available, then do not go with Magnet - I promise you will regret it if you do.
