    Hi all,

I have a Vodafone mobile broadband sim in my laptop with an allowance of 10GB data per month.

Is there a Windows app/program which will allow me to track upload and download data on just this connection i.e. it will ignore upload and download data over wifi? I found a couple of such apps online but they don't allow me to distinguish between my Vodafone connection and wifi which makes the app useless for my purpose.

    Cheers,

    Ben

umm how would that work? The pc has no idea which data passing through the ethernet/wifi port is mobile only traffic all it sees is data.

You could try the right forum for more suggestions though

So the PC knows it's got a type of connection called "Mobile Broadband" which is only accessible through the 3G modem but the amount of data passing through that device cannot be distinguished from data passing through the Wi-Fi connection? You sound very certain about that. Are you sure? My Android phone has an app which distinguishes mobile data usage from Wi-Fi usage and measures both separately. I'd be amazed if my €3,000 laptop can't do something my €150 Android phone can do.

Well your question was very vague...yes there are apps for that...use google and don't be a douche.

Use the right forum in future this is for broadband only

    I don't think so!

So asking for the opinion of people with an interest in the area is no longer permitted on Boards? You do realise most new threads on Boards are started by people looking for "opinions" from their fellow Boardsies don't you? If you could only ask questions on Boards which weren't capable of being looked up on Google it would be pretty quiet around here e.g. when someone calls you an unpleasent name on Boards and you want to find out what type of person does such a thing you don't need to look this up Google to know the answer http://bit.ly/1bUeeKS

Mmmm, forgive me for thinking that measuring "Broadband" use would be relevant to the "Broadband" sub-forum

    Mmmm YES :D

Are we all supposed to know that the generic "Broadband" forum is incorrectly labelled and in fact only refers to non midband broadband? The term "Broadband" without any other qualifying description is understood to refer to all types of Broadband, e.g. DSL, ADSL, SDSL, Local Loop Unbundling, Cable, Fiber, Satellite and (BELIEVE IT OR NOT ) Wireless Broadband etc etc, see http://www.broadband.gov/broadband_types.html

How can you give out to me for being in the wrong Forum when the forum I'm in is, using the midband naming convention, itself incorrectly labelled? If there is a "midband" forum should this forum not be the "non midband broadband" forum?

BTW, UPC quadrupled my fibre broadband speed from 50mb to 200mb last month. Having been impressed with your assertions that faster broadband led to increased income (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057042384) I excitedly checked my bank account at the end of the month to find out how much extra I was going to earn and guess what?

There you go again...the right forum is the midband forum, get over it.
3G is not wireless broadband it's mobile internet and goes in the midband forum where it belongs with all the other know-it-alls

Can't you see your data usage on your account off Vodafone's website ? I can... even though it's kinda slow to update.

We use a 25GB allowance Meteor mifi hub for our home Internet. We have a shortcut to the login page to show ur our current bill. Am sure Vodafone have the same. Careful with the Limits.

    Hi BW,

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm familiar with the Vodafone online data usage service but I need something which will proactively warn me when I'm on the way to exceeding my limit. If I rely on myself to check the Vodafone site every few days I'll surely forget and end up with a large bill for over usage!!!
