It's a great calorie burner after the excesses of Christmas.

Entered today but I've never run one like this before....5k uphill...same 5k downhill.

Don't really know how to approach it.

Signing up for this myself - but like born2bwild have no idea how to approach it. Any advice is welcome ...

The course elevation is just a tad bit scary:

    I'm training on a treadmill with a 3% gradient.

I'm brutal at maths but if the elevation is 137m and the distance to the top is 5000m the gradient comes out at 0.0274 - 2.74% gradient - maybe I'm miscalculating?

I did it last year....its tough in parts but its superfast on the way down.
Did 44mins which is in and around my flat 10k time.

Advice: run up the hill and then turn around & run down the hill! :) I've never done the race before, but I've run up to the summit and down, even just in training it's tough going up and great going down, I'd say the race will be the same, but more so!

It looks about right. Though that's an average so it must be steeper in places. The problem really is the treadie. On a treadmill you're not working against gravity. So, it doesn't make much difference whether the gradient is 2% or 6%. You'd be better off training on a real hill.

Aim for HMP on the way up and 5k pace on way down?

More like, start at 10km pace to bottom of hill, switch to HMP til you reach the Golf Club and if your legs allow switch back to 10km pace. You then go downhill so time to dig out that 5km pace, a drag follows, so ur back on HMP for most of the way to the top.

Basically it's a very hard one to pace!

Sounds like fun. What's the terrain like? Road or trail\grass? Thanks!

    Road.

I ran the route this morning. 6 minutes slower than my last 'normal' 10k 2 weeks ago!!

The first 2k is the toughest.

Looks like they've pushed the start time out by 30 minutes to 11:30.

Its still at 11, just the registration wording says you can register up to 11am which is clearly a mistake

    Hi Guys

Registration is open at 09.15 and shuts at 10.30. Quick briefing at 10.45 then up to the start for 11.00.

    Apologies for the confusion.

Well done to all associated with organisation of this today. Really enjoyed the run, tough as it was. Registration was well organised and I like the added bonus of the technical T-shirt this year. Good event, hope you raised lots of money.
