ok, so I've set up my own business after being made redundant, under serious pressure at the moment, is there any short term support out there for myself wife and little baby, wife is off on maternity leave (262 euro per week) and with the pressure I'm under i just have taken my eye off the ball,

Ive a lot of working coming in for end of Jan and feb and i know from there things will take off but in the mean time its just awful.

Im sure others have been in my position and I'm just wondering whats the best thing i can do???

is there any help and supports i should be looking at to get us over christmas??

    Thanks in advance

What about before that, Benefits are based on your contributions in the previous year, i.e 2012 ( I think ) so if you were paye then you may qualify

You won't be entitled to dole as a self employed person but you are entitled to assistance and there possibly will be a reduction based on what you expect to earn annually - if I were you I'd contact your supplementary officer and they will look into it for you and may be able to start some payments.

Can your partner get in touch with the maternity section and ask if there is an increase due to your low income.
