    Hey Guys & Gals!

I appreciate this has been discussed before but just bringing it up again if ye don't mind.
Just wondering if anyone has renewed the above lately and have ye compared quotes between the likes of FBD, Aviva & Zurich who I think are the 'new kids on the block!'
Also does anyone know if there are any huge differences in the level of cover that the above offers?
With FBD myself and just doing a little groundwork before they call.....

    Cheers...DB

Golden rule is always get alternative quotes, it keeps them on their toes. I did on farm and tractor insurance and saved a considerable amount.

Get a rep to visit you.

The covers differ quite a bit but 90% are similar.

As Knockmulliner says too much of a difference to ignore and that is whether or not you have any farm organisation discount cards.

% of cost per thousand to replace. If insuring sheds with slatted tanks, value without the tanks. Tanks won't burn or blow away in the windd.

    They can crack and leak

What approx cost would you pay on 60 acres just public liability? Got quoted 400. Thought it was high as have no slated shed and don't keep stock over the winter.

    Get a second quote.;)

Will do, thought it was high. Seems to cover nothing but cattle wandering onto road.

My public liability is around 250 with FBD and i have slightly more land than you.

If I recall correctly, when I was with them, FBD's public liability started at a lower rate and increased at a slower rate per acre than Aviva, Hibernian at the time.

I have found Aviva to be considerably cheaper than FBD for my needs , tractors, buildings and emp liability, but with one exception, motor cover.

I've said it before, it's a sad fact that there is no rewarding of loyalty nowadays. In fact it is the exact opposite. They stick a little saddle on you and ride you goodo

Very ture . You actally get ripped off if you show loyalty to them

If you do that you have to highlight that you are insuring the shed only and not the tanks.. If you under insure they will only pay a percentage of the claim.

Was there motor cover in that?

I basically halved my bill leaving FBD last year
Used Arachas as a broker in the end

I'd been with FBD for 25 years and my father before me since they started
    Incredible stuff
    No claims ever on anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 817 ✭✭✭Mulumpy

I got a quote half what FBD were charging and surprise surprise they came down to match it. If you look carefully at the small print FBD cover is the best of all if you have a claim so I stayed.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,043 ✭✭✭George Sunsnow

Yes absolutely FBD cover is great but they refused to match the quote I had last year
It is obviously very good advice when shopping around to shop for a completely equivalent level of cover to what you had

Policy in hand at all times when speaking and have the quote break down in detail emailed to you to compare in the evening line for line before deciding
But as I said to FBD ,I have a business to run too

    Quick question
I've third party fire and theft on tractor but no cover on sheds.
If tractor catches fire in shed is it covered?. I've been told not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,110 ✭✭✭cute geoge

I heard where a 135 which had 3pf&t caught fire out in the farm and was not covered because it was considered too old .I would not mind but it the tractor at the time was only 30 years old!!!!

It all depends on what you are insuring. Most term and conditions vary very little and definately not worth 15-20% premium. If quotes are the same it comes down to who you think is giving you the best cover and lowest excess. Would not really get caught up in excesses too much either.

In the last twelve months FBD is becoming more competitive. Last year the gap was about 15% compared to 20+ previous years. I have a car with them and my daughter was a named driver. Got very competitive insurance in her own name this year and she still can drive my car for no extra cost..

No the tractor and loader policies are about 2 months before farm insurance

We went to change last year, zurich just wanted the farm policies and said to leave the motor policies with fbd... I said it was all or nothing and they couldnt match fbd. Motor seems to be their down fall, no young drivers here(then), but my parents are over 70

I found exactly the opposite, third party fire and theft cover on tractors, livestock in transit cover are just 2 instances.

was over 40 years with fbd b4 I left & I didnt make the decision lightly,

Luck of the game I suppose, never had a claim refused here......it's either written on the policy or it's not I suppose. I can't see them surviving if they renege on policies
We get a substantial group discount, but for that we'd probably be gone too,

That seems to be the way alright. Changed from FBD when l took over. Went through campions insure brokers. Have main policy with Zurich now and tractors with whoever is cheapest at the time.

Curious as to why u werr adamant to have all together? Does it matter once u get the cover u need? Like doing the food shop l coild go to lidl, aldi and Tesco instead of going to just Tesco.

So why did the insurance give a fire policy on it then?

My dad has policies too. Renewal date for everything on same date. 31st October. Went looking for quotes last yearon the basis of the two of us moving. I suppose it's handier to have ll the policies / renewals in one place. Zurich could not match fbd overall last year.

I'd cherry pick the policy based on price /cover. Sure on 31 October following year they will all be due again.

    Cost benefit analysis time.
