Delighted for him.....would have loved to see him at Leinster replacing Jonno Gibbes. Enjoy him as a punter.

On RTE they said he'd be Head Coach next season.

Yes he'll be taking over and reporting to a director of rugby. Possibly a bit like the Quins setup.

Excellent stuff, always good to see former Irish players involved as coaches, hopefully he does well now.

That's Jackman, O'Shea, Easterby, McCall who are head coaches abroad, there's probably a few I'm forgetting.

He's making a big impression over in France. I don't know what their budget is like, but without the world class names, they've come from ProD2 to now challenging for a play-off spot in the Top14, ahead of the likes of Racing Metro and Perpingan all during his time there. No small achievement.

At the moment is he just the defence coach or is he involved with the forwards too?

I read his book and I think, maybe, just maybe, once, in an aside that he wanted to become a coach!

Hi Bernard, as a fan of yours I would like to boost your recruitment options for next season. I feel your player James Hart has really underperformed this year and doesn't deserve to be at your great club. I therefore propose a swap with Duncan Williams.

Yes we'll bring the donkey horse to France.

Best of Luck to him and Prendy, they've really done well for themselves this season. This could be a great opportunity for young Irish players that want to try playing abroad early in their career.

Already is with Shane O Leary who moved last season following Prendergast's appointment as skills coach.

Some turn around by him as a coach. Always thought when he took a clontarf side that lost the ail final because they didn't score first when it ended in a draw to relegation he was nothing but a name. Has cut his teeth and improved as a coach since then.fair play to him.

IRFU should be funding more promising coaches to do a year/season in NZ.

I'm sure Birch would personally recommend it.

this is not happening. someone got the wrong end of the stick. Jackman will be coaching attack as well as defence but he's not going to be coach or manager.

Sounds like it's happening to me. I am just listening to The Rugby Show. "...I'll resign with Grenoble for another year, and take up the head coach position..."

    Nothing ambiguous about that.

Landreau was head coach/director sportif and now he's mainly the latter with Jackman filling the void. That's my understanding anyway.

Andy Wood the coach that brought Clontarf to that final was shafted so Birch could be brought in while still playing with Leinster and also coaching St. Michaels SCT and DCU, by the end of his second season with Clontarf Birch got them promoted back to 1A and then 'departed by mutual consent' Andy Wood came back the following season and the bulk of that team then just were pipped to the 1A title by St. Mary's. Andy Wood has Clontarf currently top of 1A.

I always thought Jackman was destined to be a good forwards coach but never a head coach, he always seemed to be juggling far too many things to give the time required to be a head coach. Great to see him doing so well with Grenoble though, i'm plesently surprised.

Mike Prendergast seems to have got a promotion too.

I think the elements of being a head coach that he may not necessarily be suited for are the sort of things he won't need to be doing.

I think he'll be more of a John Kingston head coach (who is head coach under Conor O'Shea) rather than a Matt O'Connor type in control of everything.
