I got a call today, from an old friend Mick, one of the former owners of Gamesworld and a former director of Gamestop.
He now runs a new chain called Smart Spot that specialise in all sorts of electronics, computers and consoles.
And he's decided to run a retronight in the Navan store, which is nice, and has asked to borrow some of my stuff for the evening.
This is not to be a regular thing, but a once off to show Da Kidz what gaming is all about.
This event is to be pre-Christmas so I had a think and these are the machines I'll be providing,

    Famicom
    CDX
    Megadrive
    3DO
    Snes
    N64
    GC
    Xbox
    Gameboy Pocket
    Neogeo Pocket Colour

They already have a PS/PS2 thingy so I think that's the good stuff covered there.

Any ideas what games I should bring, assuming I have them already!
Stuff that can be just played, without having to sit through tutorials, so no RPGS or Strategy games!

I may attend, and make sure none of the locals are lifting my stuff, certainly a list of all lent out will be required!

    Quote - I may attend

No a hope in hell I'd loan out all those consoles plus games without attending, and standing at the exit with a baton!

Let me know when its on and I'll definitely attend, does he need a CDi ?

does he need a CDi ?

He's trying to encourage people to get into retro gaming, not scare them away for life!

I'd consider going too, depending on when it's on and if I'm free.

Games like bomberman would be good to bring or any multiplayer games like that. Gets everyone involved. Also what about the Sega Saturn?

    Yeah, I have that too.
I'll be talking to him over the next few days and finalise it.
I've no multi tap for the Snes or Saturn so no Bomberman thrills :(
Rage wanted €40 for their Hudson multi tap which seemed excessive at the time.
Now, Navan is a good drive out Atavan, but you're welcome to drive to mine and I'll give you a lift if you want to go, help keep the unwashed natives in line!

Looks like this is going to be delayed until after Christmas, and that Mick, the owner, may want to make it a more regular affair if it works out.
Not sure I'm going to be in the position to provide machines and games for every occasion, my guess is the event will run the once, gauged if a success and then they'll get in their own supplies of retro goodness.

I will keep peeps here posted on the event and dates and what not.

I think this, plus the other retrogaming nights, not to mention the recent increase in the number of bricks&mortar shops that deal in this stuff, as very interesting.
Retrogaming may be on it's way from being niche to mainstream.
    You know what that means?
    RAGE prices for everyone!! :(

    Yay!

    No wait I mean boooo!

Don't think you need to provide that much stuff. Too much selection and these things lose focus. 3 TV's and 3 consoles, stick to multiplayer games. The handhelds would only get lifted IMO.

A Saturn. A couple of multitaps and Saturn Bomberman in 10 player mode is all you need.

Closest you'll get to the official Hi-Ten Bomberman and a bloody good laugh will be had by all too!

You must have been mislead, I bought one in there last week for €25!

    Dammit!
Not misled either, saw the Hudson multitap and asked about it, the guy behind the counter checked, consulted with his fellow staff member before quoting me €40.
    Bugger it!
I need to get one to take full advantage of Super Bomberman 3.
Also need at least one Saturn Multitap so I can play a spot of Saturn Bomberman

I just had an idea. Flood adverts.ie and ebay.ie with pictures of rare stuff you want to buy for ridiculous prices. Create lots of fake accounts, flood the sites with this stuff.

Find said 'rare' item in The R.A.G.E... wait for them to check online in order to price it.

    Win?

Now now, we don't condone fraud here at A&R towers.
They may accept that at other gaming fora around here, but at Arcade&Retro we strive to be above reproach.

I wonder what RAGE would give for my GB Micro..... hmmm.....

What you call fraud I call creative accounting. :P

A perplexed frown and a half trade-in against Super Mario World, if I could be cynical for a moment.
