    Hi

My car it's a 00 fiesta just failed the nct on 4 areas. The first 3 were corrosion on 3 of the doors. The 4th was extensive corrosion on the chassis. The nct guy said I could get it welded. I don't know how much it's going to cost to fix can anyone help with a rough estimate? Also is it worth doing? It's a nice car and only has 62,000 miles on the clock.

    Thanks

You would have to show it to a body repair shop to get an accurate price.
    Whereabouts are you located?

There a few autobody shops around Galway. Try a few for quotes and decide if it's worth it.

What kind of car is it, how much is it worth and have you got any pics of the rusty bits?
Difficult to know if it's worth it.

    I'd be with Listermint.

There are lots of nice Fiestas out there for about what the repairs + scrap value would total.

    (photos would be good though)

Probably a rotten rear chassis leg/inner wheel arch, very common problem on them. That could be quite expensive to repair, better get a few quotes.

The NCT Aren't too worried about how it looks, once it's welded, a lot of people make the mistake of worrying about getting a factory finish, if it's an old car it doesn't matter how rough the finish is once it's structurally sound.

However plating it and welding by a metal fabricator(exhaust guy, plumber, gate maker etc) and coating it with a can of primer or matt black is sufficient for NCT and safety,

depending on the extent of the welding you could be as low as 60 euro,

getting the same job done really neatly and prepared and painted in the cars original colour could run up to 400 by an autobodyshop.

Afterall if it's underneath it'll never be seen.

It wouldn't have been my way of doing things but when economics of scrapping a good car for the sake of 60 euro , I changed my mind on seeing rough and ready welding jobs get new NCT certs , and rightly so, looks aren't everything , safety is.

that's true. I had a sierra with holed sills and I was fretting until a pal showed me his which passed with patches welded over the holes.( I did a better job and I am useless at welding, but I did grind down the welds and fill as needed and paint so you couldn't see the repair at all)

If you get to it before they inspect this still works on non structural parts.

Also. Ensure that whoever does the welding disconnects the battery first. Very very important.

Also ensure that the earth lead is as close as ppossibe to the welding point. If the earth is too far away, you risk driving current through a bearing, sseizing it pronto.

That said, most experienced welders know all this. I'm just preparing you in case you go toa hobbiest welder

had the front crossmember, sills , and chassis welded on my 98 primera.

finally had to go though even though passed the test in march lost a strap from the petrol tank recently abs gone and drive shaft making a lot of noise. decided it was time for the great scrapheap in the sky.

Get the work done crudely and it should be cheap.

What ever you do dont scrap it.

are the doors only visuals, yeah?
