Facebook Security Issue

    Hi,

    Quick question re: facebook.

If I get an email saying someone tried to log into my account, how accurate is this? i.e. are they ever sent by mistake or by something else going wrong?

If not, does this mean someone has my password? Or is it sent when they enter an incorrect password? i.e. could it be a case of a shared computer, and someone selected the wrong address on the autofill dropdown menu and typed their own password - would this trigger the notification email?

    Thanks,

First: is it from Facebook? Many of these emails are fakes, which led you to sites which aren't Facebook at all in an attempt to steal your details.

Second: if it is correct it may be a case that someone with a similar email to yours has mistyped their email address when logging in etc., or as you say chosen the wrong item from a drop down

It means that FB has detected that somebody has tried to log into your account from somewhere unusual. By that I mean if you living in Ireland you would expect your activity to be on Irish networks. If somebody tries to log in from Kenya then that would be unusual activity.

You should make sure you have a strong password and enable the 2 step verification to keep your account secure. Make sure you do this in facebook and not by clicking on an e-mail that you received.

You might also get this warning if you use a new device, like a phone, for the first time.
