    Hi,

No VOIP service in or out. No reply from the support number.

Is anyone else having issues with them?

    Are you still having problems?

As I am always on the lookout for more suitable service providers, I checked out
    http://vomino.ie/rates/

and it is apparently a monthly payment of ~€10

The mobile rates seem high ..... 9c for Irish mobile .... when compared to this

    http://www.freevoipdeal.com/en/rates#letter-I

1.2C per min ..... and no monthly payment but PAYG.

Apologies for taking this a bit off topic, but the info might be of interest if things continue to be bad for the OP.

Only thing with the Betamax resellers is that you cannot port your landline number.

Op, if you're looking for an alternative also look at the sticky.

True, pity given their price structure ;)

    True.

Since you brought it up, (I don't want to go OT now):

Y can forget about privacy with the NSA tapping your calls too. Something to keep in mind when choosing a foreign provider, you can never have privacy. This applies to calls terminated through the US by any provider.

VoIP unless encrypted is not secure, tapping of calls here is illegal and doesn't happen for all we know. Were too small a country. This is a reason why I would prefer to go with an Irish firm, apart from supporting jobs etc.

Though I doubt your a terrorist Johnboy!

That's my two cents on it anyway

One never knows with on line comms ;)

Where possible I use direct to IP calling and encryption if possible -- not many can accommodate that at present, but I expect it to increase due to the recent revelations you referred to above.

Yep, at the minute I think there are few providers that will do SSL / encrypted calls basically because it is heavy on resources, no interest and because calls are real time, more research may need to be done on improving it.

I would expect that encrypted SIP communications will become more and more common over time.

At the minute usually it is just corporate that use encrypted SIP.

I am conscious this is taking a bit of a sideline to the main topic ..... but is it necessary for the service provider to accommodate encryption?
Just wondering about those who use softphones with encryption capabilities ..... is the provider involved?
I have no experience with that so wondering ..... and thought it would not matter what the provider did if the encryption was in the hands of the user (only secure place to have it ;) )

The connection between the provider and client should be encrypted, yes. It would only make sense to have this at provider servers side, so the connection would be encrypted. Of course it is difficult to ensure all connections are secure and that there is no delays in the calls that would affect quality of the calls.

It is possible to encrypt sip / rtp sessions through ssl. That would be 128-bit or 256-bit connections. Not all devices will support this. Newer ones do.

The provider should encrypt calls or setup private tunnels to other carriers, along with secure connections to the PSTN. Of course, nobody really knows if it isn't encrypted at carrier to carrier side. But even to prevent tapping of calls in an internal network where a vlan is not setup, e.g. At a hotspot, it would be good to have encryption, otherwise other users may be able to tap your calls, depending on the security set up there.

Please create a new thread if you wish to discuss this further. This is getting off topic. Thanks!

UPDATE: Eventually got through to customer service. They logged the issue. No further contact. Issue was resolved when I happened to check a day or so later.

How do you find Vomino from your overall experience?
