Insulated plasterboard -what width?

I want to get insulated plasterboard put in our hall, which runs along the exterior wall.

This would include the wall the stairs is on.

The stairs is quite narrow, apparently at the minimum width it can be, including skirting, which is circa 830mm.

Question, what is the minimum width, including plasterboard, that I can put up, to be effective......

I'm assuming by minimum width you mean thickness. A 62.5 mm sheet which is made up of 50mm Insulation 12.5 mm Plasterboard should work fine. You will definitely notice a big improvement in Heat retention.

It depends on how much you would like the new plasterboard to overlap the stairs !

what type of covering is on the wall already? Is it just plain plaster coat over cement wall, or dot and dab plasterboard.
    how thick are the stringers?
can you move the stairs out from the wall?

You could run a piece of architrave along the top edge of the existing wall string, that way the insulation can go over the string. You'll have to judge what max width can be accepted if you choose this method. You are not going for a grant I assume.

I used a 40mm odd trim with a 38mm insulated board in this scenario. This allowed me to go out over the depth of the string.

I had seen it done that way in a friend's place.

Wouldn't be moving the stairs anyway. Its a poured concrete wall.....

Here's a photo so you see how far it came out and how it looked when finished.
