video format for budget android

    hi i'm just wondering what format to use for video playback on a budget smartphone:)

    it's the vodafone smart 3

    specs: 800*480
    1 GHz Cortex-A9
    512MB ram

    Eh, 800x450 x264?

    If you are transcoding from a large 720p or 1080p source file, then x264 at the above mentioned resolution. 2pass ~500kbps, 96kbps stereo lc aac for audio. The slow or slower preset for video. MKV or MP4 container. You may need a 3rd party video player for mkv. If the source files are small low quality 720p (e.g. yify) they'll play fine as they are.
