Many around here using two cards, getting any issues.

    Would two 7870's be grand?

Do you have 7870 and are looking to add another?

Am using two 6870`s Crossfired, there only 1Gb cards, (when I upgraded, I am waiting till next year to do the card)
Have been fine, noticed some Tearing over the Weekend as I had been playing with some Overclocking and seemed the
manual settings on the Fans, I had the Speed to low, cards where running into the 80`s Degree`s so set them back to auto
speed on the fans, and tearing stopped..

No issues, and noticable change with the two cards

I've a pair of 7850s crossfired. Never really had any trouble with them to be honest. Will post up some fps results when I get home but pretty much all my games, I get over 60fps at 1080p. Some are over 100fps but as my monitor refreshes at 60hz anything higher is gravy.

These are from 7850's crossfired so 7870's should perform better especially once OC'd. All settings are on ultra or max or as high as they can go and at 1080p.

Tomb Raider 59.1fps (with tressfx hair)
    Batman Arkham City 92.33fps
    Metro 2033 44.33fps
    Hitman Absolution 61.1 fps
    Bioshock Infinate 81.63fps
    Valley 1.0 55.8fps
    Heaven 3.0 66.3fps

I have more wrote down somewhere but can't find em. The Metro score is probably lower than what you would observe in game as the bench scores as low as 8fps at one point. This is with the cards OC'd to 1100mhz on the core and 1250mhz memory. Max temps I'd get would be about 66°C on one card and 73°C on the other card.

:EDIT: Also I've been running this set up for about 6 months now and have never noticed any stuttering or tearing or any of the negatives that everyone is banging on about with crossfire.

It's a tough one, I had 7850 crossfire a good while back and while it was fine (2gb 7850, wouldn't advise 1gb crossfire anything for modern games at 1080p), certain games had bad stutter where most didn't, but it was enough to drive me cracked and go back to single card. BF3 in particular had the time had me pulling my hair out, and while nearly everything else was fine, it just got on my nerves.

Has the stutter not improved in recent times with the newer beta drivers?

I'm sure it has, but for those of us using SLI/Crossfire since earlier days (in my case, 2004), it's a never ending cycle of perfection, issues, drivers, perfection, further issues, more drivers, then more issues as titles are released, and so on. I'm not directly advocating against sli/crossfire, but there are perpetually unavoidable issues relating to it that are best avoided - if possible, in my opinion.

Thanks for the reply. FPS look good. Doing a rig for a friend and he got a 7870 and AM3+ board capable of crossfire off his brother and has the budget to stick in another. The 150 of piximania. I know there was problems in the past with crossfire but a lot of people today said there resolved.
