    Hi,

I need a bit of help in removing the fuel sender unit from my X-Type. This is the same unit which would be fitted to Ford Mondeo's or Focus's.

Specifically, how do i remove the black plastic ring surrounding the fuel sender unit. I assume it unscrews, but it's in a very awkward location and don't want to break anything.

If someone has a handy tip for removing this, i would be most appreciative.

    Image attached.

    Thanks!

There is a special tool for unscrewing them but you should be able to improvise with a hammer and a very large flat screwdriver ;)

I have a habit of breaking things when i improvise !!

Any idea if this tool is expensive and easily obtainable?

I was thinking of maybe a strap wrench but was wondering about the limited space to work with.

Yep, hammer and screwdriver. Don't think the "special tool" will fit through that opening in the floor, unless it's just the angle the photo was taken!!
