Lads I`m going looking at a couple of tankers for sale, I need a few pointers as to what to look out for when buying a second hand one.
Also roughly how many loads would it take an 800 gallon tanker to empty a 4 bay double slatted shed the tanks are 7 foot deep and I think 14 feet wide ??
The reason I`m asking about the 800 gallon one is there was one returned to a dealer so its in next to new condition but is it too small for my set up??

    Grand thanks lads,
what do I need to look out for on a second hand one? Also is there some type of switch on the vac pump that switches from vac to pump or how does it operate?

Yeah there is a lever on the vac pump, marked s for spread and f for fill. I'd advice ya to get a little time on the tankers working them before you head off doing your own if your not too sure as them tankers are fairly dangerous as they are pressurised containers after all

you are talking about 40,000 gallon tank approx, dividing it out you get 50 loads.
On a short draw i would expect 4 loads an hour
I was able to do 4 loads an hour with a 1600 and the draw was to the field beside the tank.
At 4 loads an hour and at least 50 loads you are looking at 12-13 hours minimum.

Do you have the time and willingness to go at it?
    Long draw or short draw?
What HP will you have pulling it?
    Hilly ground /wet ground?
You should also factor in your time and diesel money.
Also factor in getting water for an agitator. if he needs water fast and you cant draw it fast enough , he will be charging you for the idle/waiting time.

I agree that a big tank will be faster , it wont wreck your head, you will see better progress. We empty 4 tanks for a man which takes 4 12 hours days with a 2500 gallon tank with a short draw. it gets depressing.

i have the same size tanks as you only a foot deeper. I have a 1350 hi spec and it does 4loads to the foot 32loads for each shed.

You would be as fast throwing out with a bucket. Most of these smaller tanker also have small pumps so take the same time to fill as a bigger tank. Depending on how often you plan on going spreading and how much you can't put out at a time in between agitating you could be ages doing it. Get in a contractor with a 2000k+ tank and have it done in the day.

What sort of tractor have you to pull, is the land hilly? How far is the draw? Tbh I reckon anything under 1300 gallon is a waste of time and diesel unless you have the time to do it and have your own agitator and a 2nd tractor that can have the tank on it all spring. That way you can take a few loads out at a time without have to swap tractors.
