I have the exact same deck and problem as described here:

    http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=460583

everything inside looks fine, outside is mint condition, sound is perfect, vu meters and dolby perfect. it plays back wobbly unless I use a q-tip to put pressure on the roller handle, then it plays smoothly and sometimes I might have to shift the cassette a little to get the left channel level at full

it doesnt seem like any of the springs inside have lost tension or are missing, I dont have a clue what part it might need, hopefully theres some permanent fix.

on the plus side it works as a great preamp without the cassette playback but I bought it to record to tape

I would hazard a guess that roller handle is slightly lose and not finding enough torque till you push it. Either that or the spindle is slightly lose in the motor part. Did it take a knock recently? Do you see any worn felts or washers in that area?
