Chris Greene is the best young talented broadcaster in this country, I can't understand why Today Fm or 2fm haven't snapped him up. He has the potential to be the Gerry Ryan of this generatation. I can't understand why Today fm filled their evening vacancy last year with that square colm o sullivan, he is as dull as dish water.

Ok, thanks for the post, friend of Chris

Ignoring the username and hyperbole of the OP , I do think Chris Greene is very good. If 2FM remodelled itself as the Irish BBC Radio 1, he'd definitely get a slot IMO.

I like Chris but I can't listen to the show cos the girl that co-presents completely wrecks my head.

Love the Cracked I - Chris and Ciara work really well together. If they could get rid of the Galway Player & Little Miss Naughty segments it'd be even better :P

No idea where the OP got that one from. He's more like Greg James or a poor man's Scott Mills.

Didn't Colm win a PPI? Disregarding the username and such, im glad someone started a thread, I'm from Dublin but I can get i and I think he is a very good presenter, would fit with Spin in Dublin. Don't see a slot on national radio though.

Leaving aside the fact that the post was posted clearly to get attention for the young lad, let's look at the merits of the post.

"Chris could be the new Gerry Ryan" which at first I found insulting to a legendary figure in Irish radio but then made me smile at the very thougt somebody would even suggest it.

Let's be clear about this, Gerry Ryan was unique in some sense and trying to replace him would be radio suicide. Nobody sounds like and acts like him. Also Gerry Ryan was losing listeners rapidly before his death so replacing him with an identical model would be just a nonsensicle idea.

I have never heard of the guy Chris Greene and took the time to listen to him on a podcast and my oh my, how will I retrieve the 15 minutes I spent listening to this pure armature drivel. I'm not going to even mention the female I heard with him as she would be best reconsidering her career.

Chris sounds like a nice guy with fire in his belly but he sounds like a 16 year old from the country on a pirate radio station. To be a national radio host his accent would be a disadvantage immediately (ie:Hector and recent criticical comment) as we have seen in the past. Even if he is to get past that hurdle he is just too young and inexperienced to place in any position of responsibility on a national radio station.

Look around and listen to current talk show hosts in the market. There is an age requirement it seems and the reason is that they need to understand the callers from all demographs, they need to be in relationships, have kids, drive a car, gone through problems in life, experienced life, understand politics and the economy to some extent. The more life experiences the better, which sadly this kid has not had a chance to experience. It's not just coincidence that talk show hosts are generally older it's an obvious requirement.

I listen to a lot of talk radio from here and in particular the UK and there are two types of hosts. Those that specialise in news and current affairs and those that choose lifestyle and debate. The news and current affairs which is dominated by people like Pat Kenny and his sound alikes and the later of the two styles can include the "shock jock" host which was made popular in the US by stern and his ilk and in Ireland by Chris Barry and more recently Adrian Kennedy and Niall Boylan. Then you have the ladies favourites like Joe Duffy, Neil Prendervile, Derek Money, Sean Moncrieff etc. I can't see this guy slipping into any of these positions and having the knowledge and life experience to deal with adults and their experiences. The station the kid is on is a youth based station and is perfect for him for a few years to gain experience but all of the above are twice his age and have twice the life experience and I'm sure all started out just like him. The point is that you couldn't just throw him on the air to talk to adults and people who might actually be over the age 20 and don't get the student humour.

Maybe in 20 years the kid will have the experience but whoever posted the thread did him no favours because listening to him now is embarrassing. Either way, I would never like to discourage anybody from trying, although listening to some out there, there are some who should reconsider their carreers.

I think a lot of what you said is correct about Chris, certainly that he'll never be Gerry Ryan. I must admit, while Gerry was great once, I had stopped listening a long time before he passed. It just couldn't keep my attention.

That said though, Chris has a style suited to iRadio and the 15 mins you listened may or may not have done him justice but he's a very good presenter. But would need to adapt should he ever get to go national.

You mentioned about age too, If I'm not mistaken one of Ireland's current great talk broadcasters is Chris Donoghue from Newstalk and he's only 27/28.

Also he's had a taste of national media when he and his comedy Partner Peter Ganley had the TV3 show taking the piss out of Tallafornia (albeit not helping my point of him being a good presenter when this terrible show is mentioned although it was to take the mick)

I agree about Chris Donoghue but my opinion of him is not good, although he has a journalistic background. Donoghue is hardly the best example of a talk show host that could talk ad-lib with no script or background information on the guest speaker. His word pronunciation makes me cringe everytime in hear a "TH".

With regards to Chris Greene you have another cringe worthy example of his talent which speaks volumes. He's possibly a good kid and has potential but his accent and has lack of life experience needs time. It might seem harsh words but having listened to him I'm not convinced he has the natural ability to talk about anything and that's a skill that can't be learned.

Ye, so we shouldn't take the opening post seriously, it was created to just get attention, he's not going to be the next Gerry Ryan so there's no need to talk about it, but the post could be used to talk about chris as a presenter and his merits.

Chris 'I say the word penis every 15 seconds to give the impression I'm a reckless shock jock' Greene ?

Why did iradio not put him on breakfast when that slot became available?

He's being with the station since it opened, that would be a natural progression yeah?

Maybe the graveyard shift suits him better, so he can keep saying crazy things like ' penis' and ' jack off'

    He so.... so dangerous.

Looks like the first step has happened for Chris to head to national radio anyway... he and Ciara are leaving iRadio..

He is actually very good by Iradio standards. He toned down a lot since the big merger because he was wild enough when he started off. Be no harm to see younger names replacing your Colm Hayes types who are seemingly only there to get the thoughts and feelings of stay at home mothers.

Ciarán O'Regan of Radio Kerry is being linked with the vacancy. He works in a similar timeslot there and has seen a big increase in ratings since he took over. He'd appeal to the same age group as iRadio and is familiar with the area, having worked with Shannonside Northern Sound in the past, (mainly in the Sports Deparment) so that's a bonus too. Interesting times ahead

Going to miss them from iRadio - they were definitely one of the best shows on it. Hopefully if the rumours are true and they end up on 2FM, the show will be a similar time/format. I'll be listening in anyway.

Chris and Ciara's show will be the most exciting late night show on Irish radio since The Blast with Ray Foley and JP.
