    Hi,

I've got sick and tired of spending so much money on cartridges for my Mach 3, and want to try a Double Edged (DE) razor.

    Something like this - http://tinyurl.com/ocm9dy3

I've looked in Boots (they sell the blades, not the razor) and several pharmacies. Does anyone know where I could pick one up?

    ta :)

I searched everywhere for one a few months ago.

Ended up going to shaving.ie and getting an Edwin jagger. Get a good badger brush and some proraso soap too.

Its so much better then the 50euro 47blade with vibrating handle thing i used to use.

I took this plunge about 18 months ago and I will never use Mach 3 garbage again. One blade properly used is amazing.

Good badger brush, poraso preshave cream and sandalwood shaving soap makes you wonder how they have conned so many people into 24 euro cartridge refills and useless foam.

For an excellent guide on how to do it

I started shaving the old fashioned way a year or to ago. I never looked back. It's a better shave, is more enjoyable and cost next to nothing.

And I second shaving.ie excellent, fast service.

Been using a De razor since 2009, it's def the best way to shave and costs pennies in comparison to that Mach 3 and other modern crap.

I got this box of blades http://www.shaving.ie/products/100-astra-superior-platinum-de-blades-carton.html , I'd say I'm nearly going to get 2 years out of it. Can't ever see myself going back to Gillette, it's not just the money the shave is far superior once you get used to it. I just bought this bluebeards razor starting off http://www.4men.ie/p/363/the-bluebeards-revenge-scimitar-double-edged-razor , it's my first safety razor but it's been perfect.
I've been using Truefitt and Hill shaving cream and found it very good, anybody got any recommendation for a new cream I've only got about 3 shaves left?

i gang, got to the stage where I'm sick of dishing out crazy money for gilette blades so decided I'd start the old fashioned shaving way as my dad used too.
Just need some advice on where to start as in what one to buy etc, all new to me so forgive my ignorance:confused:

Head on over to the Facial Hair & Hats forum under the 'Rec' tab..

There are several threads about how to start shaving, what to buy, where to buy, advice, links to tutorials. Everything you ever wanted to know about shaving but were afraid to ask!!

Most people end up going to shaving.ie and buying one of their starter kits.

For anyone looking to start of using a double edged razor you can pick up a basic plastic DE razor in Tesco & Boots for very little, it won't be anything like a Merkur Progress DE razor but its a good starting point and they are very cheap.

Well, I had my first shave this morning with the DE stuff from shaving.ie. Wow, really very good. Not perfect, but that is just down to my technique - I will get better :)

Going to save so much money this way - as long as I can stop spending on more DE stuff :)

That is one thing to watch out for, you can tempted to try all sorts of different blades and foams and balms etc. But even if you do, it still works out a hell of a lot cheaper then the cartridge systems. Plus I get a great sense of satisfaction out of a shave now. Somehow I feel more manly.
