Anyone got any thoughts on big Hong Kong festival?

Hong Kong Mile: Finding it hard to separate Moonlight Cloud (6/4) and Sky Lantern (5/1). The former is, undoubtedly, the best horse in the race but hasn't got a great record on her travels (7,5,2,8) with good-firm ground a big worry and the trip still holding slight question marks. Sky Lantern is an out-an-out miler and will adore the going.

Hong Kong Vase: The Fugue (6/4) has proven with her 2 trips to Breeders Cup that she takes her travelling well. That she could be over-the-top would be a slight worry but Gosden is a shrewd master and the fact that she's staying in training next year reduces the risk that they're running her for sentimental reasons. Drawn perfectly in stall 3, you'd have to think she'd have too much speed and class for the likes of Red Cadeaux, Mount Athos, Galileo Rock, Dunaden, Dandino & Simenon. Like Sky Lantern, she will love the quick ground. NAP

Sky Lantern & The Fugue double @ 14/1

Saver on MC & The Fugue double @ 5/1

Tom hogan seems happy with Gordon lord byron, 12/1 atm.

Forth in this race last year and drawn 4 all positives.

Don't think ill be backing anything but looking forward to it, would be a nice feather in the cap for Hogan and the owners(the small man n all that).

I backed Gordon Lord Byron last year on the tote and he was over 90/1.

I can't imagine he'll be so big this year but do not take the 12/1 offered by our bookies he'll be a considerably bigger price on the hong kong tote.

What about the 6.40 am 6 f race? Slade Power n Sole Power ? (okay, sole doesn't do much on 6f)

Are these races on turf or dirt?

Turf. The fav in that is defending champion and strongly fancied by the looks of it so left race alone.

The four group 1 races are run on turf.

HK Vase - Red Cadeaux won last year, but it didn't have to race against a horse of the calibre of The Fugue. I think if there's going to be a challenge from further down the field, then a young improver like Galileo Rock might just put in with a decent performance.

HK Cup - A race that has historically been won by 4/5 year olds. Instantly, that should rule our Cirrus Des Aigles. Really hard to split the race between the other market leaders as they've all been very close to each other. Would be inclined to stick with Endowing because it's the form horse.

HK Mile - Moonlight Cloud is the clear favourite and has top notch form at home - there are still question marks over whether it can still be as good abroad. Not sure how anyone could back Gordon Lord Byron, it's surely way too slow for this one. Gold Fun and Glorious Days are proven Sha Tin horses and at the prices, I think I'd have to go for Gold Fun with a saver on Glorious Days.

HK Sprint - Going to have to be boring and go for the Japanese favourite. It won last year, it has fantastic form, and by form is still the quickest horse. With this being its last race, I am sure the owners will be all out to win, not that they will need encouragement with the prize money on offer. Again, you'd have to say that Lynam horses are just too slow.

Out of interest, both Lynam's horse have carried heavier weight in previous, would that make a difference? (I don't know what weights the favorite has ran on, or the caliber of horses he has ran against) ? Slade in for a shout of placing? (I suppose he only bet Jack Dexter in a G2 on soft by a neck, and GLB hammered him by 3ish lengths on gs; still to win a g1

Probably wont have a bet but surely The Fugue will win this hard held. Buick is the only negative.

I think he's only ok mate, i wouldnt not back a horse because he's riding him(ala Spencer) but i think he can be iffy enough decision wise at times.

As i said, he's grand, no more no less.

Just read this from Gosden regarding her BC run.... interesting. Magician must be some horse.

"She ran a blinder. We assessed the form very carefully there of all the horses we thought we had the measure of and there was only one joker in the pack. Magician was impossible to assess - devastating in winning the Irish 2000 Guineas then finished last in the St James's Palace Stakes and hadn't been seen since," Gosden said.

"He's freakishly good and what can you do when you see horses run those fractions and then something runs the last quarter in 22 seconds? Ryan isn't a man who compliments horses, but told me Magician is a machine. Time will prove, if he stays right, that he will be the champion older horse next year."

Yea he is good, but, breeders cup performance kinda scares me ans 11/10 ,is he worth the risk? ( genuine question)

    I might be wrong here,but doesn't Tom Quelly have 20+ group 1s?

Has Sky Lantern ever bet any colts (win wise) 3 year olds dont have a good record ,(hey anything can happen, nice odds)

Moonlight cloud worries me on the basis of only winning in France and more worrying his recent races were on ground no better than good.(Mayne that is dumb as he has smashed records)moreover many of his races were under 9st.

God damn it,why do people still talk about Ascot? He should never have ran that race, OBrien admitted that running him was a risk and later admitted that he should not have run it.that race should be ignored.

But ya, what a performance and kind of unexpected in light of absence.

His tipping logic was spot on.

It's just a lottery bringing European horses over there.

    None were successful.

Sky Lantern did not travel well
