Tripod hand luggage

Heading to Ghent for the weekend via Ryanair. I'm going to try to get some low light shots of the Christmas market there. It's a low budget trip so only bringing hand luggage. Was wondering if anyone else has ever brought a tripod through security in your hand luggage. It fits in the case when I remove the head, so no bother there. It won't be a big loss if I lose it as it is cheap and I plan on getting a better one in the new year anyway. Worth the risk?

Shouldn't be a problem, I have brought tripods with me without any hassle.

Brilliant, that's what I wanted to hear.

We were in the main square in st. Petersburg during the summer, when the OH pointed out a guy and his partner taking a selfie with a full sized tripod. "Who would bring a tripod on holidays, that's a bit of overkill right...?" At least that's what I think she said, it was hard to hear over the grinding of the gears in my brain. I'm not really into selfies though...
