Always loved Paulson's stuff on youtube. His breakdown of wrestling transitions is top notch.

gona give that BJJ school on Caple Street a go... they do no gi classes on Tues and Thurs. I want to learn BJJ with an emphasis towards MMA rather than BJJ competition with the Gi and although no gi classes are not necessarily MMA specific I'd say they're more relevant seeing as there's no gi to use for grabbing and chokes etc

Am I right in thinking that way? if all other things are equal i.e. good instructor etc ?

if you want to get better at grappling faster train in the gi , you can still train in the gi without grabbing the gi and focusing on collar chokes

If you haven't started training yet, it might be a bit early to start looking at DVDs. I think you'd be better off just working on the stuff your instructor has you doing for the first few months at least.

    Good topic to talk about.

The problem with asking that question here is you dont know who is telling you their opinion. You might get ten replies saying, there is no gi in mma so why bother training in one. So you take that on board but you dont know that ten 15 year olds who watch ufc but dont train have given you that bit of advice.
I think you should look at mma athletes that you feel are good at bjj and find out what they think. Do they train in a gi? I think Nogueira, Werdum and Demian Maia own a couple between them.

Use facebook or a phone to contact a good level Irish MMA/BJJ athletes and ask them what they think.

I think the topic was discussed here before and Enjoy Choke said something along the lines of ''you should train in the gi only if you want to get really, really good at fighting''. Maybe ask him to explain.

All MMA athletes that have elite Jiu Jitsu in the UFC have a strong base in the gi

Carlson Gracie Jr. advises his student who fight MMA to train in the Gi. He confirmed this at a Q and A session after a seminar.

Roy Deans for me, they are Gi but a lot of it you could work in Nogi. I have to say that since I started watching it, my game has really started to come together, he has a very simple way of doing things that have been over complicated by other instructors.

Robson Mouras dvd's are decent, havent seen the nogi version but the gi version good if you cant make it to actual training.

    www.mginaction.com
Marcelo Garcias online training website. I'm a little biased but I think it's the best out there.
