The disgraceful state of Irelands Broadband Infrastructure

    Where to begin .......
I live 10 minutes outside of Tullamore which is one of the biggest towns in the midlands. I cant get any broadband through the phone line, no availability with wireless, and terrible mobile connection. So what other option did I have other than satellite. Over 100 a month for "up to" 20 mb/s connection and 6 mb/s upload. On average the speed is 0.5 to 1.5 download and 4 upload. In 2013 can anyone tell me how this is acceptable. Will this country ever move into the future and invest in infrastructure in rural Ireland because its not just cities that have people living in them

Free wi-fi in McDonalds Tullamore. Invest in a massive amount of Euro-saver burgers and Cokes and kill two birds with one stone.

It's possible to get Sky, Eircom and UTV at speeds up to 24Mb/s in Tullamore so you must be living in an awkward place outside of Tullamore.

I can't see why it should be expected to invest quite a bit of money so few people can get faster broadband when there are satellite services out there.

Have you checked with another satellite provider?

I live outside live 10 minutes outside tullamore too. Perhaps not the same side and i have eircom broadband. And it is forever going down and crashing, and just disconnecting for no reason. So beware, even if you do get it,it might not be plain sailing.

Already a thread on this in Broadband, don't see a need for another.
